The three-year Monster Hunter Rise anniversary is just around the corner, and fans were ready to celebrate the game. But now the game stopped working for all Steam Deck users, as the latest update came with a switch of an Anti Tamper software.

It's not a secret that Capcom is using the Anti Tamper software called "Denuvo" on almost any PC game they release. But with the latest update the publisher switched out the software with a new and a modern DRM software, called "Enigma Protector", and that's where the problem begins for Steam Deck users.

Ever since the update went live, many fans in the community have shared their disappointment. But why does Enigma make the game unplayable on the Steam Deck? The answer is quite simple!

Enigma Protector is a digital rights management solution crafted for licensing Windows software, making it incompatible with Linux software. This includes the Arch Linux distro used by the Steam Deck. Unfortunately, this DRM switch resulted in the loss of Monster Hunter Rise support.

Monster Hunter Rise: Capcom Is Working On Solution

At the time of writing (January 22, 2024) Capcom has recognized the issue and is actively working on a solution for Steam Deck users. They've shared on social media that a hotfix will be released soon and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

Apart from the software switch, the publisher also took out the following event quests and downloadable content for Monster Hunter Rise:

  • Event Quest: Gotta Hoard Fast!
  • Event Quest: Super Shady Look-alike
  • Event Quest: USJ - Shrine Showdown!
  • Event Quest: USJ - Arzuros Onslaught!
  • Downloadable Palico: MEOW LIMIT!
  • Downloadable Palico: Yasu

If you happen to have downloaded those beforehand, you'll keep them in your inventory, but if you're late to the party, there is no chance in getting the downloadable content back.
