Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the first games to cross Nintendo's previously established $60 mark. With a price of $69.99, it is one of the most expensive games made for the Nintendo Switch, and costs even more than Breath of the Wild when it first came out in 2017. In a recent interview, Doug Bowser, head of Nintendo USA, has revealed why the game cost so much.

Why Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Costs $70

A recent Insider Q&A with Doug Bowser has revealed why Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom costs $70.

Although the price of the game is comparable to current AAA games by Microsoft and Sony, many fans are still a bit disappointed. Until recently, Nintendo hasn't dared to cross the $60 mark on their new Switch games . Now, even Breath of the Wild is more expensive than it was at release (at least in the eShop, but not on Amazon )

When Bowser was asked about how the price for Tears of the Kingdom came together, he stated that it is based on what the game has to offer.

"The price point reflects the type of experience that fans can expect when it comes to playing this particular game." ~ Doug Bowser via AP News

What we can take from this, is that he is quite confident that the expectation of what we get for $70 is matching the games' content.

A brave comment for him and a reassuring one for us, because fans doubted the game's hype for a really long time since it is so similar to its predecessor.

But a lot of details we know about the game suggest that Tears of the Kingdom might offer way more than we have expected, take a look at this:
