Nintendo Direct September 2022: Every Game And Announcement At The Show
Here are our highlights from the Nintendo Direct on September 13:
Fire Emblem Engage
A new mainline Fire Emblem game has been announced. It's called Fire Emblem Engage and looks sick as hell. The showing was very impressive, with the game looking really great. And it's coming fairly soon: the release date is slated for January 20, 2023.
Octopath Traveler 2
The madmen did it; a sequel to Octopath Traveler. The original is so underrated, one of the most gorgeous games ever and just an absolute blast to play through. It's brilliant that we are getting a new game, which again looks fantastic.
Octopath Traveler 2 will release on February 24, 2023. So far it has been announced exclusively for Nintendo Switch, but the predecessor eventually came out for other platforms as well. Here's hoping that will happen for the sequel as well.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
Another brilliant sequel is Sparks of Hope, the much-anticipated second round of the Mario + Rabbids games. We already saw the game at Ubisoft Forward, now we got another sweet reminder how cool it looks.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope releases on October 20, 2022.
Mario Strikers Free Update
Remember this game? In our Mario Strikers review, we talked about how much we liked the game, but that it was a bit lacking in content. It's now getting its second free update, which introduces Pauline and Diddy Kong. That's at least something, I guess...
Pikmin 4
Pigs learned to fly, the hell froze over and Pikmin 4 has finally been revealed. It's been a whopping five years since Shigeru Miyamoto said that the game is almost done. I guess they needed more time for polishing. The game is finally coming out, but we didn't get a concrete release date. WHAT is going on with that game? Well, it's coming in 2023 and that's at least something.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Guys, it finally happened: we have the full name of the sequel to Breath of the Wild. It's officially called "Tears of the Kingdom". The short new trailer showed off some more gameplay, with Link climbing around in the skies and... flying on a giant manta ray... glider... thing? I'm not entirely sure what happened but it looked cool as heck.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will launch on May 12, 2023.
So... it was a weird one this time. A lot of unspectecular filler and smaller games, some of which will surely be cool but nothing really popped out. The Zelda trailer was very short and we didn't get any of the remakes that were rumored beforehand. So a bit of a disappointment, but at least we finally know more about Zelda.
