The Xbox Series X|S has some top-tier titles. Not least thanks to backwards compatibility. But you know what's even better? Playing all your Steam games on the console. Yep, that's actually possible now.
It sounds like a dream but it's true: it is now possible to play all your Steam games on the Xbox Series X|S. Yes, even the PC version of Death Stranding, Valheim or other soon to be released PlayStation games. The latest version of the Microsoft Edge browser makes it possible.
How Can I Play Steam Games on Xbox Series X|S?
First, the bad news: to play Steam games on Xbox Series X|S, you need to be a member of the Xbox Insider Program and belong to the Alpha Skip Ahead group. If you are, you can download a brand new version of the Microsoft Edge browser on the console, which is based on the Chromium engine.
This means that the browser on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One is finally able to run web browser apps. In addition to Discord or Google's streaming service Stadia (our review), it also includes NVIDIA GeForce Now. Now that's what we really care about. This allows you to access your Steam library (even titles from the Epic Games Store) on the console.
Some games may still be rather unplayable because mouse and keyboard are not supported by the Microsoft Edge browser but with so many options to choose from, that's a minor inconvenience.
Some games aren't supported yet, most notably Horizon Zero Dawn and Detroit: Become Human, but that may change soon.
GeForce Now can be used for free, but we recommend the founder membership, which costs €27.45 for six months and lets you play for more than an hour at a time (which is the limit of the free version) with active ray tracing.
