Pokémon Arceus looks to be much more similar to Monster Hunter, rather than Breath of the Wild – it was confirmed that Arceus will not have an open-world.
We already suggested it in a previous article: Pokémon Arceus doesn't exactly look like it will be an open-world game. After the rumors started spreading, The Pokémon Company decided to come out with a statement:
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Jubilife Village will serve as the base for surveying missions. After receiving an assignment or a request and preparing for their next excursion, players will set out from the village to study one of the various open areas of the Hisui region. After they finish the survey work, players will need to return once more to prepare for their next task. We look forward to sharing more information about exploring the Hisui region soon.
Disappointed? Well, we did warn you that Pokémon Arceus is looking like it's trash, and this is another nail in the coffin. Right? Right...? No, somehow I have a feeling that Pokémon Arceus fans will still rush to defend the game, and look... I kind of get it. After all, Monster Hunter made segmented areas work, right? That game felt incredibly open-world, despite having a hub with detached 'open' areas to operate in. Then again... Monster Hunter looks a lot better than Arceus, has a much bigger scope, more ambition and actually runs with more than 10 FPS...
Still, Pokémon Legends: Arceus did actually pretend to be Breath of the Wild with catching mechanics, and it never bothered to clarify the matter, until it was caught with its pants down, and the open-world was publically questioned. Another reason why this game will fail, and we should boycott The Pokémon Company until they actually put effort in, but... who's listening...
Anyway, since we already drew the comparison a bunch of times: If you're not familiar with the way Monster Hunter's world operates, then I do recommend you check those games out: Monster Hunter Stories 2 was just released, and if you're a fan of Pokémon, you surely will enjoy it, since, if you ask me, Monster Hunter Stories is the better Pokémon anyway. Don't believe me? Watch:
