We always thought about it, but now it's actually happening. A Pokémon MOBA is about to get released in less than a month with Pokémon Unite. Here are all the details!

If you ever wanted to control your own Pokémon in a multiplayer online battle arena, we have some good news for you. Pokémon Unite is an upcoming MOBA title and it's coming this summer! The official trailer for Pokémon Unite came out yesterday and confirmed what fans have been craving for some time. Pokémon already had hundreds of characters and a MOBA game was basically a no-brainer.

Pokémon Unite Gameplay

In the Pokémon Unite trailer, we can clearly see various Pokémon battling it out in an arena while trying to score points. Some of the Pokémon we can see include: Pikachu, Mr. Mime, Snorlax, Blastoise, Scorbunny, Lillipup, and many others. Pokémon Unite will offer players the classical MOBA experience with a 5 vs 5 battle taking place on Aeos Island and the different stadiums. Players will be able to evolve their Pokémon with Aeos energy and get access to new abilities. It sure sounds like a MOBA.

The footage shown in the video was taken from the mobile version of Pokémon Unite, but that won't be the first platform as it'll first release on the Nintendo Switch. The developers are already planning cross-play between the Switch and mobile devices. The rules of Pokémon Unite were revealed by the Pokemon Company:

Unite Battles are where Trainers and their partner Pokémon compete in 5-on-5 team battles. The key to victory in a Unite Battle is to have a higher score than the other team when time runs out. To earn points for your team, you must gather Aeos energy by defeating wild and opposing Pokémon and then deposit that energy in one of the opposing team’s goal zones. Unite Battles take place in various stadiums, and the rules for each stadium differ. There can be different numbers of team members, different match lengths, and even different Legendary Pokémon that appear.

Different Pokémon will have different stats, skills, and weaknesses. Some will be walking tanks, others will be more elusive, and so on. Reading the rules of the game gives us the idea of a mix between Heroes of the Storm and LoL.

Pokémon Unite Skins and Battle Pass

Since the Pokémon MOBA will be free to play, it only makes sense that the title will try to monetize with various cosmetics. Players will be able to equip their Pokémon with different items that'll change their in-game look (as seen in the trailer). Let's hope it'll be only visual and not pay to win in any way. Right? Additionally, Pokémon Unite will also feature a seasonal battle pass.

You’ll have the opportunity to earn in-game rewards through the seasonal battle pass. To earn these rewards, you’ll need to level up the pass by completing missions. Additionally, players can upgrade their battle pass by using Aeos gems, enabling them to claim even more rewards.

Pokémon Unite Release Date

The best part about Pokémon Unite is the fact that it'll release at some point in July. That's when the Nintendo Switch version is set to come out. Mobile players will have to be patient and wait a few more months until September. Will you be giving Pokémon Unite a try? Tell us on Facebook or Twitter!
