Project Magnum is a new looter shooter from NAT Games that is coming exclusively to the PS4 and the PS5 and is giving us serious Gears of War meets Outriders vibes.
Ok, let me start with all the influences I see in Project Magnum: Returnal, Gears of War, Outriders, Destiny, Remnant From the Ashes and a badass grappling hook that every new game needs to have. Seriously, Project Magnum is probably called what it's called, because the whole thing is so testosterone filled, it makes Gears of War look cute. Ok, actually I'll take that back, because Gears of War is testosterone on steroids, but just take a look at the Project Magnum trailer:
Looter Shooter Project Magnum Coming Exclusively to PlayStation
It seems like the devs really took all the best parts of every popular game from recent memory and turned it into something juicy – and I mean juicy. Those graphics? Yes, please.

We don't know much about the gameplay yet, but from the trailer, it is clear that this is a PvE looter-shooter. Judging by Outriders' recent success, that is not a bad thing. Whether or not Project Magnum will have PvP is not known. Judging by the trailer, you'll be working in a group of four to take down enemies and, despite it being a looter-shooter, we can clearly see some melee action, reminding us of Remnant from the Ashes and The Surge. Also, the Just Cause-like grappling hook gives the game some mobility that certainly sets it apart from more sluggish shooter affairs.
Story wise, we don't know much, other than what you can watch above: Ruins, tentacles, aliens and a huge floating ball of dark matter. It all sounds like Sci-Fi-Fantasy elements that we're familiar with, so we don't expect Project Magnum to reinvent the wheel here.
The graphics and pace of the trailer are certainly a highlight and the slightly anime-graphics style might be a turn-off for some, but I dig the Final Fantasy vibes. Gears of War for anime fans? I'll take it. Project Magnum is definitely on my watch-list and, if you couldn't tell from this article, it should be on yours too.
On consoles, Project Magnum is an exclusive PS4 and PS5 release and is also published by Sony, but, as is often the case these days, Sony is also bringing this one to PC. As far as a release date is concerned: Sorry, no idea. We'll have to wait.
