It's a question as old as time itself: Which is the better system, the PlayStation or the Xbox? The next gen-gaming consoles are here and the war rages on. Now it was revealed that the PS5 outsold the Xbox Series X by a massive margin at launch.
Initial reports have PS5 launch sales at a record-breaking high for Sony, making this their best console launch to date. The PS5 sold an impressive 2.5 million copies worldwide – dwarfing Xbox Series X sales, which only broke 1.4 million in global sales.
To commemorate the occasion, PlayStation thanked their fans. More importantly though, Sony promised more consoles will be making their way into stores across the globe in the coming weeks.
We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year - please stay in touch with your local retailers.

Why did the PS5 outsell the Xbox Series X?
Why the big margin in sales between the two next-gen systems? One place you could point to is PlayStation’s exclusive games. The PS5 simply has better exclusive launch title games like Spider-Man Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls, while the Xbox had no exclusive title at launch.
It'll be interesting to see if this will change. It seems unlikely, as the upcoming PS5 exclusive game line-up still towers over what Microsoft has in the pipeline.
PlayStationPlus is also a great pull for players and has built a loyal following since the PS4 and has been offering great free games for some time now. However, Xbox finally caught up with the Xbox Game Pass that was released this year. It is worth noting that Game Pass might very well still catch on fire eventually and tilt the scale in Microsoft's favor. We shall see...
