Sony confirmed that they finally secured enough chips to be able to ramp up the production of PS5 systems and effectively end the shortage.

You get a PS5, you get a PS5, everybody gets a PS5... if you have the money of course, this ain't Oprah. Still, it's good news because during their earnings call, Sony confirmed that the PS5 shortage is finally coming to end.

Can I Buy a PS5 Now?

Yes, you should be able to. So far, the PS5 has been sold 10 million times in nine months. Sony now expects to have enough chips for another 15 million PS5s to be available before the end of March 22. Quick maths: That's 5 million more PlayStations than were sold thus far in a time span that is 2 months shorter. Add to that the fact that 10 million people already bought a PlayStation 5 and the chances of getting one are suddenly looking up.

Also, if you don't want to take it from Hiroki Totoki, Sony's Chief Financial Officer:

The shortage of semiconductors has impacts in various areas and through various measures, we have been taking some action. For PS5, the target has been set for the number of units to be sold this year, and we have secured the number of chips that is necessary to achieve that. Regarding the supply of semiconductors, we are not concerned.

So if you were planning to get somebody a PS5 for Christmas, you might just be able to make that dream come true. And if that somebody is you and you're making your own dream come true, then good for you. Go buy that console. Treat yourself. You deserve it.
