New PS5 Update: All Changes And Download Size

Sony has released the new PS5 update 23.02-08.40.00. Here's what features the new PlayStation 5 update includes and how to install it.

The PlayStation 5 gets updates from time to time, some are minor, some are bigger, and this new one's a biggie. The last big update was the jump to PS5 version 8.0 which brought some new features like the mute option for the annoying beep sound when powering up the PlayStation 5. Now, Sony has released update 23.02-08.40.00. Since it's a minor update, it's mainly focussed on improving the system stability and bug fixes – here's what you need to know about it.

PS5 Update 23.02-08.40.00: File Size And Changes

PS5 Update 23.02-08.40.00 is around 1.2 GB big. According to Sony's release notes, these are the changes that the update brings in:

  • We've made some security fixes to the system software
  • We've improved system software performance and stability
  • We've improved the messages and usability on some screens

As soon as you start your PS5, the new update should show up in the downloads section. Once it's downloaded, all you have to do is click on the notification and restart the system.

If the update doesn't show up in downloads, you need to go into the settings. There you'll find the item System Software by System. Go to System Software Update and Settings and click on Update System Software. The PlayStation will then search for the latest update and add it to downloads.
