A new Monkey Island has just been confirmed and it's going to release this year. Here's what you need to know.
Monkey Island was one of the first games I ever played. I was less than 10 years old and stuck in that beginning-level boat for eternity. Yes, maybe I wasn't the brightest crayon in the box - and maybe I got that saying wrong - but I stuck with Monkey Island, and thought my way through, and am proud to say that the game set me on my path to gaming mediocrity.
Now, the godfather of all classics officially returns, with the game's OG creator at the helm no less. It sounds unbelievable, yet is a true surprise announcement of the highest order.
New Monkey Island Game Releasing in 2022
Yes, you read that right - the new Monkey Island game is still releasing this year. It will be called Return to Monkey Island, and is directed by Ron Gibert. Also, I know what you're wondering, and yes I am happy to be the bearer of good news: Guybrush Threepwood is returning as well.

Story-wise, the game ignores everything that happened after LeChuck's Revenge and is a direct sequel to the OG sequel and it's cliffhanger.
In case you're too young to understand, here's the director of The Last of Us and Uncharted calling this the most excited he's been for a game ever:
Dude! Congrats! I kid you not... this might be the most excited I've been for any video game... maybe ever?Don't mess it up!

Monkey island is the real deal, and I'm beyond happy that a new generation of gamers gets to witness the greatness of Ron Gilbert's pirate epic.
