Six Days in Fallujah, a game that you might or might not have heard of yet, will release this year, despite it having been somewhat canceled over a decade ago already. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
Releasing a controversial game in 2021 is a brave move. Games are being canceled over not having been produced properly and not living up to the standards, while this game has been so controversial, that it actually got canceled upon the initial release. Well.. kind of.
Six Days in Fallujah tells the story of the US’s 2003 invasion in Iraq, more specifically, the assault on Fallujah. Hundreds of thousands died in this bloody battle and with Six Days in Fallujah, the stories of the fallen and the remaining are to be told.
Why is Six Days in Fallujah so Controversial?
When the game was first to be released, it was met with heavy criticism from war veterans and anti-war groups. The game was supposed to be out so soon after the real events of Fallujah and the memories and scars from the battle were still fresh. That’s why Konami, the original publisher, stopped the development of the game. However, the game was never fully canceled.
Victura picked it up and has been working on Six Days in Fallujah since 2016.
What’s the Release Date for Six Days in Fallujah?
Six Days in Fallujah will come out this year, probably late 2021, and will be playable on PC and consoles.
And if you’re wondering why this game is being released now, over ten years later, then we’d like to share this quote with you from Victura’s CEO Tamte:
"It's hard to understand what combat is actually like through fake people doing fake things in fake places. This generation showed sacrifice and courage in Iraq as remarkable as any in history. And now they're offering the rest of us a new way to understand one of the most important events of our century. It's time to challenge outdated stereotypes about what video games can be."
The developers are actually working with frontline marines and soldiers that were part of the assault.
This is their story.
