We all knew that Concerned Ape – the mastermind behind Stardew Valley – was working on a new game. We even wrote about it here: Stardew Valley Creator Working on New Game: Announcing Soon.

Well... he wasn't kidding when he said he would announce the game soon. ConcernedApe officially revealed the game on his blog. With the announcement came a first trailer, that already gives us a lot of glimpses at what to expect, which is... a lot of Stardew Valley. Seriously, to the uninitiated, this game looks exactly like Stardew Valley, and it might well be a successor – even if only in spirit. Anyway, here's the trailer:

Haunted Chocolatier: Everything We Know

In the blog post we linked to above, ConcernedApe gave us some insight into the development of the game, and what the finished product will look like. We summarized the most important parts for you here:

  • The game will be more "fantastical" than the "grounded" Stardew Valley
  • If Stardew Valley's theme was the sun, then Haunted Chocolatier is the moon
  • The game will feature haunted chocolate and be more of an Action RP
  • The game is not evil, and will still be positive, uplifting, life affirming
  • The gameplay loop is focused around gathering ingredients, making chocolate, and running a shop
  • There are no plans for multiplayer
  • So far, only PC is confirmed thus far
  • There is no release date yet
Chocolate represents that which is delightful. The haunted castle represents the allure of the unknown. The ghosts represent the imprint of the past. All of these things are important.

ConcernedApe also confirmed that even though the trailer already looks like polished gameplay, the game is far from finished. He merely edited the trailer cleverly, but, in truth, the game is still the solo developer and he hasn't "even gotten to the good stuff yet." He says, thus far, he's only been working on the “meat and potatoes” of the game, but "what really brings a game to life is the spice, the sauce. And I haven’t really gotten to the sauce yet. That’s coming."
