Surprising Move From Blizzard: Warcraft 3 Reforged Could Finally Become A Good Game

Warcraft 3 Reforged was a huge disappointment and many fans of the franchise consider it an unworthy remake that harms the heritage of the legendary original. Now, about three years after its release, Blizzard seems to put new effort into a possible soft relaunch of the game.

With Warcraft 3 Reforged, Blizzard tried to bring back the original game from 2002 with better graphics and some new features. But Warcraft 3 Reforged failed to live up to the expectations of many players who were hoping for a true remastere experience.

It was not only released with tons of bugs (starting right at the main menu screen, running with about 5 fps even on high-end PC's), but also came with changes that made the remastered game much worse compared to the original.

Many players also criticized the lack of communication and transparency from the development team regarding the game's development and release. Now, three years later, a new player survey from Blizzard reported by Warcraft Tavern indicates that Warcraft 3 Reforged could get a bigger update anytime soon.

Besides questions about the importance of specific features like Custom Campaigns and Ranked Play (still missing, btw), players are asked about their opinion on a soft relaunch concept, which would combine features from both the legacy edition and the remastered pc game from 2020.

Although this isn't a confirmation that Blizzard is really going to reforge Warcraft 3 Reforged, chances that this will happen shouldn't be too bad. Blizzard did something similar with its Warcraft based MMORPG World of Warcraft, asking players about their opinion on further "classic" releases after the re-released vanilla version of World of Warcraft was a surprisingly huge success in 2020, attracting way more players than Blizzard expected.

The result was the (re-)development of two World of Warcraft expansions, The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, which players were asked about before via a survey. We wouldn't be surprised to see a new survey anytime soon, asking questions about bringing back the next expansion Cataclysm as well.

Warcraft is one of Blizzard's biggest franchises, so big that it even resulted in a Warcraft movie in cinemas. We would be very surprised if Blizzard would just give up on Reforged, since it's based on one of the best strategy games ever made. And we all know that they can do better. Diablo 2: Resurrected is the best proof.
