Take-Two finally completed the acquisition of Zynga and build out its mobile offering.
Wow, it seems that publishers in the gaming world are on a shopping spree right now. Microsoft just bought Activision Blizzard, Sony bought Bungie and is thinking about buying EA and now Take-Two Interactive finally completed their acquisition of Zynga. Who is Take-Two Interactive you ask? Well, Take-Two or T2 is the publisher behind games like GTA, Max Payne, BioShock, Borderlands, Civilization and many more to just name a few. They own Rockstar Games and 2K, so yes, they are a pretty big player on the gaming market, and they just got bigger.
Take-Two going Mobile
If you are reading this, you are probably a real PC or console gamer, right? But you should still be familiar with mobile games and know that mobile gaming is a huge market and therefore an interesting and important field for publishers to expand to. And this is exactly what Take-Two is doing with the acquisition of Zynga.
Zynga is a developer who is focusing mainly on mobile and browser games. You probably know them best for Farmville, but they also did a bunch of match-3-games, poker or slots. As Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said:
As we bring together our exceptional talent, exciting pipelines of games, and industry-leading technologies and capabilities, we believe that we can take our portfolio to another level of creativity, innovation, and quality.
The acquisition was already announced back in January 2022 and is now completed with the purchase of all outstanding shares for approximately $12.7 billion.
We don't know yet what exactly Take-Two has planned for the future and if the acquisition of Zynga maybe could lead to mobile adaptations of some of their games, but we are excited for what is to come. I mean, just think about what the Zynga devs could do with the help of Rockstar or 2K... The possibilities are endless!
Let's hope we are going to see some crazy good mobile games being published by Take-Two in the future. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for the next big gaming deal out there.
