Supermassive Games, makers of Until Dawn, just announced the spiritual successor to their beloved horror game, and it's called "The Quarry". Check out the announcement here.
When Until Dawn came out in 2015, it conquered a lot of hearts. And understandably so: it was a wonderfully cheesy experience, a playable horror film that was just tons of fun. The developer SuperMassive Games went on to make multiple smaller games in the Dark Pictures anthology, which picked up on some elements from Until Dawn but couldn't quite replicate that same charm. If you are in the same boat as me and have been waiting for a proper sequel to Until Dawn, then let me tell you that the wait is over: Supermassive Games just announced The Quarry, a spiritual sequel to Until Dawn. And it's actually coming out very soon! Let's check it out.
The Quarry Is The Until Dawn Sequel We Were Waiting For
The Quarry sounds exactly like the game we were waiting for: Just like in Until Dawn, we will experience a playable teen slasher movie with a slew of different characters and choices within a dark, exciting storyline. I'm so excited already! Here's how the developer describes the game on their website:
It’s late summer in the remote forests of upstate New York, and the teen counselors of Hackett’s Quarry have the camp to themselves for one final night. That means no kids, no adults, and no rules. In this thrilling cinematic tale, you control the fates of all nine camp counselors as their party plans unravel into an unpredictable night of horror. With life-or-death decisions around every turn, the choices you make will determine how the story unfolds.
This sounds like the deliciously cheesy and entertaining horror flick that we were eagerly waiting for since Until Dawn. The game will again feature some famous actors, like David Arquette, Ariel Winter, Lance Henriksen, and Ted Raimi and their performances will be brought to life by Supermassive's impressive animation technology.
This all sounds great, but of course I saved the best news for last: The Quarry has a release date slated for June 10, and it will launch PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series and One, and PC via Steam. That's incredible, we will get our tasty fill of gory teen horror in less than three months! Supermassive and publisher 2K also released an announcement trailer, which you can (and should) check out below:
