One of the best console shooters of all time could soon get a remake at least that's what a new teaser from THQ Nordic suggests. Should we be looking forward to a remake of TimeSplitters 2?

The TimeSplitters series, created in 2000 by developer Free Radical Design, rightly enjoys cult status among console gamers. Since 2018, the rights to the series have been in the hands of THQ Nordic and they have now apparently hinted at a remake of the legendary second part of the series, TimeSplitters 2.

TimeSplitters 2 Remake Confirmed?

In 2000, the TimeSplitters series achieved cult status on PlayStation 2. This is not least because the series had some parallels to the first-class first-person shooter games from developer Rare on the Nintendo 64. Sure: A large part of the developers at that time were also involved in the creation of TimeSplitters.

The second part of the series, which was released in 2002 for PS2, Nintendo GameCube, and Xbox, is considered a showpiece for console shooters and impressed at the time with its ingenious gameplay, a good portion of humor, and first-class multiplayer. With the third offshoot, TimeSplitters: Future Perfect from 2005, the shooter series became quiet before THQ Nordic acquired the rights in 2018 and thus raised the hopes of the fans.

These hopes are now, another two years later, germinated by an Easter egg in the PC title SpellForce 3: Fallen God again, because an item in the strategy game points to a TimeSplitters 2 remake. YouTube user "Beyond" was the first to come across the item in his video.

Although the publisher has yet to make an official announcement, THQ Nordic is known for its creative approach to unveiling new games. A TimeSplitters 2 remake with a new engine for the next-gen consoles and the PC would be a great thing, wouldn't it?

EARLYGAME'S TAKE: We have spent countless hours of fun, especially in the multiplayer of TimeSplitters 2 at that time, and would be very happy about a modern remake. Shooters that don't take themselves too seriously are rare these days anyway.
