You might have forgotten about it but Ubisoft had their own Battle Royale game called Hyper Scape. To the demise of all three fans of the game, the servers will be shut down soon.
What is a Hyper Scape? Whenever this game came up, which wasn't often, that's the question I asked myself. To answer my own inquiry: Hyper Scape is a Battle Royale game released by Ubisoft in 2020. It actually had some cool ideas, like some fun mobility and a fairly stylish Sci-Fi world. But to be honest, it was just too generic to leave a lasting impression, let alone establish itself in the competitive market. So it wasn't really the big hit that our Canadian friends might have hoped for...
After more than a year of mostly forgetting, that this game exists, Ubisoft finally decided to show mercy and do the most consequential thing: kill the game.
Ubisoft Is Shutting Down Their Battle Royale Game Hyper Scape
This news has been announced on the official Hyper Scape website on January 27. A very short blog post titled "The Future of Hyper Scape" was put on the website, announcing the (un-)timely death of this oh so young game:
We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28th. We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products.
Considering Ubisoft overall, the last bit of the statement, about "taking key learnings from this game into future products" is very interesting. Because Guillemot and Co. recently announced another Battle Royale game in the Ghost Recon universe. And considering that it looks even more generic and uninspired, I don't have high hopes for this one...
Listen, all the joshing and razzing aside... it's always sad when a game doesn't work out and has to be cancelled or shut down. So get Uplay or Ubisoft Connect or Meta+ or whatever it's called and try out Hyper Scape until April 28, because it's not that bad actually!
