We are now two months into 2021 and I still didn't get my Vampire: The Masquerade game. Bloodlines 2 was delayed again and again, but when will the release date finally come? Here's what we know about that and everything else that might interest you.
First, let's get this out of the way: I am hyped for Bloodlines 2. There is no use in denying it, I just am. So this will be biased as hell. But you don't mind that, do you?
Anyway, after the disappointing release of Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood (another game set in the World of Darkness universe that has a score of 56 on Metacritic at the moment), I need more. Paradox Interactive kept us waiting long enough, didn't they?
It All Started With A Dating App
The developers behind Bloodlines 2 are a real tease. They proved that much, when they gave us the first hints for another Vampire: The Masquerade game – in the form of a fake dating app. Yup, you read that right: A fake dating app.
I remember like it was yesterday, when I signed up for a suspicious looking app called Tender. A very obvious Tinder reference, but nice pun. Of course, this "dating app" asked for spicy details like your blood type (0 negative, by the way). In the end, you received an email that promoted the first reveal of Bloodlines 2.
Why The Hype Around Bloodlines 2?
Flirting is indeed a core aspect of Vampire: The Masquerade. Take Jeanette, for example. The blond haired chick from the first Bloodlines game was the talk of the town, not only in-game. Everybody wanted a piece of her, and she was probably the biggest flirt I've ever met in a video game. Not my type exactly, but that's besides the point.
The reason why Vampire: The Masquerade games are the real deal is because they give us authentic vampire gameplay. Well, as authentic as you can be with supernatural creatures. You have to watch your hunger, keep the vampire world secret and also follow a great plot line that involves both treachery and fantasy elements.
Bloodlines was also a great RPG, maybe one of the best in its own genre. So you can probably understand now why I really want to play the sequel, right?
What We Know: Story, Setting, Factions, Gameplay & More
Luckily, Paradox Interactive didn't leave us high and dry (sorry, vampire pun) about their new game. For example, Bloodlines 2 will not play in Los Angeles again. Instead, we will experience a brand-new story in Seattle. The game will start in a similar way though, since we will play a newly turned vampire (Thinblood).
Of course, that means we will be free to choose a vampire clan at some point. Seattle is home to all the vampires we know and love: Brujah, Tremere, Toreador, Ventrue and Malkavian have been announced so far. But wait, what about the Nosferatu? It looks like those will not be playable for us, but might be added through DLCs. At least the E3 demo already showed us a Nosferatu character.
Speaking of the E3 demo: The almost 30-minute long video gave us quite a bit of info about Bloodlines 2. It showed us the three Thinblood disciplines that you can choose from and starts in an apartment (maybe our own place, like in Cyberpunk 2077?). Then it showed us some questionable dance moves... you know what, let's not talk about it.
The main focus of the demo was showing us how a quest in Bloodlines 2 will work. But see for yourself:
Sure, the video came out in 2019, which seems like ages ago. So a lot of things could have changed by now. But the looks and the characters seemed very convincing to me! Only the gameplay received a bit of backlash, since it looked too stiff and not very dynamic. Let's hope they worked on that part.
Get To the Point: Bloodlines 2 Release Date – When?!
Okay, okay, I've kept you waiting long enough. You probably know already that the release date was initially set for March 2020. Which was almost one year ago... then it got moved to late 2020, then to 2021.
While we were waiting for news on Bloodlines 2, we got an announcement for a Battle Royale spin-off.
Don't get me wrong, I will happily play anything World of Darkness related that gets thrown into my way. Hence, the drama with Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood... but I'd rather have a specific release date for Bloodlines 2.

On some websites, the release date is set for December 31, 2021. But that just seems like a placeholder for a late 2021 release. For the collector's edition, it is January 2022. Another year later sounds bad at first, but it is entirely possible that the game will get delayed into next year. Even though it hurts to write this... How about a scary release date instead? October 31st would fit perfectly.
Will Bloodlines 2 Be On PS4/PS5/Xbox?
The game is planned to release for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. So yes, console players will experience the game as well! And you don't even need next-gen for it. However, I hope this won't affect the quality of the finished game.
Will Bloodlines 2 Have RTX Graphics?
Valid question since the game has been in development for at least 10 years. However, a next gen title must have RTX support. You can watch a preview by the developers right here:
Is Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 Worth Playing?
This question is not easy to answer since the game is not out yet. But from what I can tell (even after I take my hype-glasses off), Bloodlines 2 will be a good game. And it might even be great if the developers chose to focus on the right parts that make or break the whole experience of a true vampire game.
For me, that would be to make Seattle feel like home. After a few hours in the original Bloodlines game, I knew every street and every shortcut by heart. And this is how it should be! Even though the world will be much bigger, I want to experience the same feeling again.
Of course, the world must also offer interesting characters and intriguing stories. Especially the different factions have great potential to be more than just a gimmick and create feuds between the different parties that I can influence! The darker, the better.
If you're craving for even more info like me, you can read more about Bloodlines 2 on the official website and sign up for the Newsletter.
There's already info on some of the abilities, the different factions and what you can expect from the game.
However, it is time for news on the release date! Please, Paradox Interactive. I'll sweeten the deal with a glass of 0 negative, how about that?
