Since the newly introduced changes by Reddit Management, the forums are in turmoil. Now, one of the biggest Subreddits might be closing down. Will Minecraft soon be gone from Reddit?
Since the start of 2023 the popular website Reddit has gone through tough times. Newly introduced changes by management has led to several boycotts of the site. This all started because the higher-ups at Reddit announced plans to start charging third-party apps for their use of the Reddit API, and the users didn't like this because the official app is so bad.
Now, a statement has been released by the developers of Minecraft regarding the future of the Minecraft Subreddit. In their message, the devs stated that "we no longer feel that Reddit is an appropriate place to post official content or refer our players to". Does this mean the Minecraft Subreddit could soon be gone? Read everything you need to know here.

Will The Minecraft Subreddit Ber Shut Down?
Minecraft has been a major player in the gaming market for nearly a decade now, and it has become a household name. Hence, the Minecraft Subreddit currently has a whopping 7.4 million users (called "Archeologists"), which makes it one of the biggest communities on the website. A few days ago, a post by the Minecraft Java Tech Lead caused a lot of attention, and sparked rumors about a possible shutdown of the Subreddit.
In this post, the user "sliced_lime" posted a statement regarding the future of official Minecraft content on Reddit and the state of the forum in general. In this statement, it was announced that they wouldn't post any more official content on Reddit since "we no longer feel that Reddit is an appropriate place to post official content or refer our players to."
But they would still allow their community to post unofficial content and update threads:
"You are of course welcome to post unofficial update threads going forward, and if you want to reach the team with feedback about the game, please visit our feedback site at feedback.minecraft.net or contact us on one of our official social media channels."
So yes, the Subreddit won't be closed down and can still be a place for the big Minecraft community to interact with each other. This was later clarified in an edit to the original post and there might even be still a little bit of "official" content:
Edit for clarification: This notice is only about the changelogs posts the Java Team has been making for quite some time which we have decided stop, it is not an official policy for all of Mojang Studios, Xbox or Microsoft.
So Long, and Thanks for All the Feedback by u/sliced_lime in Minecraft
R/Minecraft Is Not Shutting Down
In a later posted and pinned comment, Admin "LexiTehGallade" clarified further:
Hey everyone! Just want to dispel some misinformation surrounding the sub. If anyone is here from the Kotaku tweet:
r/minecraft is not shutting down.r/minecraft was never an official Mojang-managed space. We had a mutual arrangement that Mojang employees would visit r/minecraft to post Java Edition snapshot updates, which has now come to a close due to changes to the reddit platform. It is very likely that we will continue to create and sticky snapshot our own unofficial update posts ourselves, as we have done before Mojang started doing it.The subreddit will continue to exist unimpeded, and you will still receive news regarding the latest Minecraft snapshots, albeit without the amazing snapshot related puns Mojang has given us over time.Happy crafting!
So every fan of the franchise, which uses Reddit, can be relieved. Nothing big will change, and the Subreddit will still be a contact point for information and updates.
