It will not be long before we can enter the new WoW Shadowlands Expansion. There will be a lot to do in the realm of the dead and the excitement is increasing day by day. And you can also see this in the number of players!
Activision-Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick announced in the quarterly investor call that the add-on is eagerly awaited - and that it's breaking records even before it is released yet.
Since the release of WoW Classic one year ago, the subscriber numbers have increased sharply. The values reach back to years of glory of the MMO classic. The announcement of shadowlands seemed to continue this hype:
"In World of Warcraft, for example, we’ve seen unprecedented engagement trends since the subscriber base doubled last year following the launch of Classic. The pre-sales of the upcoming Shadowlands expansion is the highest we’ve ever seen at this time before a release"
The following numbers give an impression how WoW Classic and now Shadowlands have led the game into successful numbers:
"At Blizzard, MAUs (monthly active users) in the third quarter were 30 million. World of Warcraft’s MAUs were stable year-over-year and increased structurally in the last quarter following the launch of Classic. The anticipation for the Shadowlands expansion continues to grow ahead of the November 23rd launch. The franchise commitment in this pre-expansion phase is at its highest level for a decade, with pre-sales well ahead of any previous expansion."
