The console war is an unpleasant and unnecessary thing. At heart, we are all gamers, no matter what platform we play on. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X is the first next-gen console in the living rooms and decides the first technology duel for itself.
In our big comparison of next-gen consoles, we found that the Xbox Series X has the more potent hardware and have heard many full-bodied promises about the pace of the PlayStation 5 SSD hard drive. However, the first point in the duel of loading times goes to Microsoft.
Xbox Series X convinces with faster loading times
Even if the hardware differences between next-gen consoles are limited and better optimized next-gen games can further close the gap, hardware testers are already coming to a conclusion:
For backward compatible titles, the Xbox Series X is (in some cases clearly) ahead in the comparison of loading times. GameSpot, gaming journalist Greg Miller and some other sites have compared the loading times of various third-party games on the two next-gen consoles and come to the same conclusion: On the Xbox Series X, you can start playing faster.
However, it is important to note that so far only games that run on the new consoles via backward compatibility have been tested. Many game manufacturers will be releasing upgrades in the coming weeks and months, which should also further optimize loading times. This could explain why the PlayStation 5 SSD, which is clearly ahead on paper, is not yet able to keep up. After all, Microsoft is already an old hand when it comes to backward compatibility.

Greg Miller, the founder of Kinda Funny Games, is also showing a video on Twitter that compares the loading times of Marvel's Avengers on next-gen consoles and the PS4 Pro.
On the Microsoft console, you arrive in the game after 01:46:42 minutes, while the PlayStation 5 takes a full 02:28:48 minutes. On the current PS4 Pro it takes of course much longer again: 03:35:25 minutes.

These are very interesting numbers, but their significance is limited. How the loading times of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X actually behave will only be revealed by the first wave of real next-gen games that will be released for both platforms.
