Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Breaks Tradition – Could Zelda Become A Playable Character?

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom might break the series' tradition by completely changing the princesses' role in the game. Zelda seems to be way more present than usual, and fans are even speculating if Nintendo went all the way to make her a playable character.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is on the way, and everyone is building their own theories and speculations about the game. The trailers and a ginormous leak leave a lot of room for fan theories and got us all super hyped about the game.

Especially Zelda's role in the game is a highly debated topic. Taken from the trailers, she seems to depict a very different relation to the plot than normally. Some fans even believe that she could become a playable character, which would immediately set TotK apart from all the other games in the series.

Are you as excited for Zelda Tears of the Kingdom as we are? The best way to prepare for the best game of the year is to play its predecessor Breath of the Wild. You can get it now on Amazon!

Could Zelda Become A Playable Character In Tears of the Kingdom?

In the history of Zelda games, the basic concept of the game has almost always been the same. Link is the main character, he is the destined hero to save princess Zelda from Ganondorf and so on. Even Breath of the Wild, a game that is quite different from other Zelda games, follows the same pattern. But now that we're about to get a sequel to BotW, it's not unreasonable to say that the storyline could be quite different from what we've seen so far.

The theory that Zelda could be playable lies within her presentation in the trailer. She gives off a totally different vibe than normal. We've seen Zelda and Link together, exploring a cave. Both of them wear the typical blue champion tunic and Zelda looks a lot more fierce. She now has short hair, and her clothing implements that she isn't that little princess anymore who needs protection. Although the BotW Zelda has always had her own ideas and was quite independent as a character, it seems that Tears of the Kingdom is portraying her as way more adventurous and present in the game.

Huge Zelda TOTK Art Book Leak Just Got Us Even More Hyped About The Game

One thing that got many fans to speculate though, was an item that we all remember. In TotK, Link doesn't have the sheika slate in his possession anymore, in fact, we saw Zelda carrying it instead. But what would Zelda do with the sheika slate? As we all know from Breath of the Wild, this was the item that navigated Link through Hyrule, a special and ancient tool for the chosen hero. Seeing that Zelda is now also using the sheika slate leads us to believe that she could play a bigger more useful and practical role in the upcoming game.

Although we would all agree, that the BotW Zelda is probably not made for fighting, it would be cool to see Zelda interacting more in a puzzle-solving and exploring way.

Let me stress that Nintendo has never officially confirmed any of this. It's just a well-known fan theory and speculation. Anything could happen in Tiers of the Kingdom, and despite all the trailers and leaks, we still have no idea of what to expect.
