Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu has just announced his plans for 2024, regarding the usage of Artificial Intelligence as well as investment in Web3 technologies and more.
More and more game developers begin to use AI as a tool for in-game content. Now, Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu announced more aggressive matters regarding AI content in 2024.
The gaming industry has witnessed recent technological milestones in AI, including the introduction of neural networks and machine learning algorithms which can be applied to games to generate responsive, adaptive, and intelligent behaviors, especially in non-playable characters (NPCs).
Known examples of this technology would be The Last of Us, which utilizes AI to create realistic and dynamic enemy behaviors, or FIFA 22, which used a technology called HyperMotion to create animations in real time.
Square Enix Announces Aggressive Approach To AI Technologies In 2024
Square Enix, a developer that is mostly known for making Final Fantasy games, announced a more “aggressive” approach to AI technologies in 2024.
In the so called "New Year's Letter from the President", it says the following:
"I believe that generative AI has the potential not only to reshape what we create, but also to fundamentally change the processes by which we create, including programming. (...) We also intend to be aggressive in applying AI and other cutting-edge technologies to both our content development and our publishing functions. In the short term, our goal will be to enhance our development productivity and achieve greater sophistication in our marketing efforts. In the longer term, we hope to leverage those technologies to create new forms of content for consumers, as we believe that technological innovation represents business opportunities." ~ Takashi Kiryu
Square Enix plans to use advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) to reshape how they create content, not just limited to text but also in areas like images, video, and music. Apparently, these changes are to be implemented by 2024. We are curious to see what the future will look like, as the use of AI seems to be pushing the boundaries of all capabilities, especially in games.
