Every single year fans ask Riot for a return of the Winter Rift and every single year they are disappointed. But could 2023 be the year? Well, some League of Legends fans believe so.
The trees are changing color, leavers are falling from the tree's and snow has already dropped in parts of the World. If you're living in the Northern Hemisphere of the world, then it's time for Winter, which also means that League of Legends fans are begging Riot to bring back the Winter Wonder map.
While most have given up hope on the return of the Winter map, it seems that this year a new glimmer of hope has appeared, especially after a mysterious message from the French League of Legends support Twitter account.
LoL Fans Believe The Winter Map Is Coming Back
The winter map was a cute overlay for Summoner's Rift which gave Baron Nashor a cool hat, added snow to the jungle and made everything feel more festive. Of course, you could toggle the view on and off if the color change bothered players, but many enjoyed the little add-on and played with this new look.
Then, the elemental rift happened and alcoves were added to the map... and gone was the Winter Wonder overlay in League of Legends. Sure, fan-made overlays still exist, but Riot never bothered to actually make the Winter Wonder map return. That is until 2023.
Winter Map Return Different From What Most Might Think
Unfortunately, it seems that the winter map return is not going to be what most had hoped for. With the return of the 2v2v2v2 Arena game mode, most players belive that one of the Arena's that is used will be a winter-themed arena – or maybe even all of them.
Riot Pupulasers has confirmed that in December Arena will return and we are, according to leakers, going to be getting a winter event, meaning that Arena is going to be based around these Winter skins.
When a League of Legends player also asked the French Riot Support Twitter about the return of the map overlay they answered with a cryptic "la magie du Solstice opérera peut-être cette année!" translated it basically means that the magic of the solstice might work this year...
So, while it isn't confirmed, it seems that this year we are getting some form of a Winter Wonder map, though most fans aren't putting their money on Summoner's Rift receiving the overlay.
