Hogwarts Legacy was a huge release for Portkey Games, who have been pumping out Harry Potter games after another the last few years. After a major disappointment from the fan base due to a lack of Quidditch in Legacy, you can be excited to know that there is a new sports game coming.
Harry Potter Quidditch Champions will be the freshest release in the new era of Harry Potter video games by Portkey. The game has already released a lot of official footage and information, but recently a new leak showed up that reveals almost ten minutes of gameplay footage from the game that we couldn't be more stoked to share with you today.
DISCLAIMER: This article contains leaks from early gameplay footage, and is therefore highly likely to be different from the final game!
Harry Potter Quidditch Champions Leak: What's In It?
In the video that was posted on Reddit, you roughly see about how one round of the game works, the general user interface, plus a character creation screen.
User Interface
The first screen shows that you can choose up to 5 characters in different slots, with one being an invite slot. This means we can probably expect some sort of online multiplayer mode to play with friends. On the right side of the screen, you can see a little window with challenges and updates.
There are four roles that the player can fill: Chaser, Beater, Keeper and Seeker. This was already something we could have expected. What is really cool though is that you will be able to play with characters from different houses in one team. You can also choose a preferred role.
Character Customization
The character screen shows a variety of already beloved characters from the franchise, like Harry Potter or the Weasleys. (Only seem to be the characters that ACTUALLY play the game canonically, so nothing crazy like Hermione or even Dumbledore on the broom.)
Of course, you are still able to create your own characters or customize the already existing ones. There are about 15 brooms the player can choose from, two thirds of them being locked. You can also change up the broom trails into your house color.
That's right, you can already play Quidditch at home! Grab this neat golden snitch game if you are into board games.
When it comes to customizing your character, there are many different body types, heads, skin colors and pronouns to choose from. The video also reveals many types of ethnic and non-ethnic hair types, face wear, and neat outfits, some in house colors, which the game allows to put insignia on for more individualism. And of course, most importantly, wands. The items seem to have different rarities and will probably be unlockable in some sort of way. (PLEASE Portkey, don't give us microtransactions)
Chaser Gameplay
There is a 30-second waiting screen where players can practice. This screen already reveals the key gameplay mechanic: You have your 5 slots (only two chasers and one beater), and you can quickly change roles with the R key. The opposing characters are in red and your team is in blue.
You can pass the Quaffle to the second chaser with a left click, and you automatically fly, controlling your flight most likely with the WASD keys and your camera angle. There are also the options to shovel pass, call for pass or tackle your enemy. A small wheel shows a few emotes, there is a stamina bar at the end of the screen.
To score, a bar will appear next to the character. While the bar is charging, payers will have to use your mouse to focus one of the three Quidditch rings. Once you've done that you simply click to release the ball. The moment of the throw might impact how many points will be awarded for the goal.
Whenever someone has the Quaffle there is a large golden circle around them. There may also spawn blue rings that can boost your speed for a few seconds.
You really love Quidditch and want to find out everything about it? Say no more! We've got you covered with this awesome book about Quidditch Through the Ages that is canon.
Beater and Seeker Gameplay
When a Bludger approaches the chaser, you must think quick, as a message pops up for a small window of time to warn the player. To dodge this attack, you must press space. If you fail to do so, you will be forced to have a small cool down period.
The Golden Snitch doesn't look too golden in this game, rather it seems to have a blue trail. You get 30 points for catching it, and by snatching it, you end the game. A match goes for 8 minutes, and there seems to be a timer for the golden snitch.
Unfortunately, we don't know much more about the other roles at the moment, but it seems like the main role we should be focusing is the chaser. The game seems like a lot of fun already, and we cannot wait for it to come to the PC.
