More Than Just A Space Marine: Henry Cavill Will Exec-Produce The Warhammer Movies For Amazon

In a recent statement by Games Workshop, the company behind Warhammer confirmed their partnership with Amazon to make a series of movies and TV shows set in the 40k universe. But Henry Cavill, who has been attached to the project since the beginning, will do more than just play the role of Space Marine, as he has been announced as the executive producer for all these projects.

We've known for years that Amazon want to make something set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. We've also known that Henry Cavill will be involved. However, we just received some news that has redoubled our excitement: They are talking about multiple projects, including shows and movies, and Cavill will be the executive producer responsible for all of them.

This was revealed in a post on the Games Workshop website, where they outlined the following:

Should we kick off with a movie or a TV show? Both?!All we can tell you right now is that an elite band of screenwriters, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer, is being assembled to help bring the setting and characters you love to the screen. This illustrious group will be championed by Henry Cavill, who stands ready to take his place as executive producer – bringing his pen, sword and/or spear to the project.

This is amazing, obviously. Henry Cavill is a renowned Warhammer nerd, and we can rely on him to bring knowledge and passion to all of these projects. Plus, as for any adaptation like this, it's critical that the audience perceives the showrunners as having genuine respect for the source material (we all saw what happened to The Witcher).

GW Hint At Release Window For Amazon-Warhammer Project

In the same announcement, Games Workshop also hinted at a possible release window for these Warhammer movies and TV shows: 2025-2026. To be precise, they said, "It’s not unusual for projects to take two to three years from this point before something arrives on screen". We assume this is the targeted release, not accounting for potential delays.

We don't yet know where the stories will take place in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, or who they will concern (we're personally hoping for a Blood Angel story that tells of the legendary meeting between Commander Dante and Szarekh, last and greatest of the Silent Kings). We'll update you as soon as we hear anything new about this exciting project!
