The Witcher | Showrunner Denies Claims About Writers "actively disliking" The Source Material

The Witcher, though very successful, seems to have some haters... amongst its own writers. What did some in the writer's room have to say about the source material about the hit Netflix series?

We all know that The Witcher series on Netflix is based off the famous game series by the name right? Well that game series is actually based off a book series by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The show has been a big success with fans of the books and the games, but it seems there was some behind-the-scenes drama.

In an interview with The Direct, former series writer Beau DeMayo – now working on the upcoming X-Men '97 series – made some pretty hefty claims of some writers of the Witcher series.

"Some Writers Actively Disliked the Books and Games" - DeMay Explains About The Witcher

DeMayo recently answered some questions as reported by The Direct and when asked about the recruitment process of the upcoming X-Men '97 series DeMayo stated that to be a part of the series he wanted everyone to be a fan, no questions asked.

He followed that up by explaining that while working on The Witcher there were some writers who disliked the source material, both the books and the games and some even went as far as to mock the source material.

It's a recipe for disaster and bad morale. Fandom as a litmus test checks egos, and makes all the long nights worth it.You have to respect the work before you're allowed to add to its legacy.

Seems like DeMayo wasn't one of the writers who disliked the original story of the Witcher it seems. He didn't name anyone specifically and didn't elaborate further on his claims.

While some of the writers seem to have disliked the original work, the show has had it's fair share of success both with fans of the base material, as well as new fans. A third season of The Witcher is on the way, and some believe that we could be receiving a Season 4 and even a Season 5 in the coming years.

That probably all has to do with the passionate talent working on screen and behind who want to bring the World of the Witcher to our living rooms and not some writers mocking the material though, eh?

The Witcher Showrunner Says She Never Mocked The Books

Lauren S. Hissrich, the showrunner of Netflix's the Witcher series, recently released a statement regarding DeMayo's claims.

Hissrich received a ton of backlash after Henry Cavill left the show. People are blaming her for his decision to leave, saying that she has ruined the show.

Now, the showrunner responded, saying she never mocked the books and that the "writer’s rooms are sacred and safe and – more than anything – supportive spaces".

It is pretty much impossible to confirm whether she is speaking the truth, but she is not showing any hard feelings towards DeMayo who made different claims.

I guess we will have to wait and see how the show will develop going forward, and how they continue treat the source material. To be Honest, Liam Hemsworth's casting doesn't look too promising in that regard, but people said the same about Cavill.
