Shrek 5 was confirmed to be in development in early 2023, but since then news have been scarce. Until now – an intern at Universal apparently got a little bit too excited and accidentally leaked the Shrek 5 release date...
Shrek is not only highly meme-able, but also a beloved franchise by many and a core memory for millennials (90s kids, raise your hands!). Easier times, right? That's why the announcement of Shrek 5 being in the works was like a sign from the universe: it gets better, folks. Just hang in there.
Updates on the new Shrek have been scarce. But that just changed; an intern said too much on the Internet and now we've got a little scrap of information for you.
NBC Universal Intern Accidentally Leaks Shrek 5 Release
Somebody once told me... to not get ahead of myself, and honestly, that's good advice. An intern at NBC Universal apparently shared the release date of Shrek 5 in a since deleted LinkedIn post, where she said "generated consumer product ideas for the following projects: [...] SHREK 5 (DreamWorks Animation 2025)."

According to that deleted post, Shrek 5 is scheduled to hit the theaters in 2025. In the past, Shrek movies have always been released in May, so it's possible we'll get the chance to revisit our childhood in spring 2025.
But, as always, leaks like that should be taken with a grain of salt. As long as there's no official announcement from DreamWorks, stuff like that could always turn out to be fake – even though 2025 sounds pretty realistic.
