Warcraft 3 Reforged can crash when clicking the minimap under certain conditions, like in the single player campaign. Here are a couple of ideas you can try out to fix the problem or at least avoid it.
Warcraft 3 is with no doubt one of the best real time strategy (RTS) games ever made, so expectations were high when Blizzard released their Remaster version Warcraft 3 Reforged back in 2020. Unfortunately, the game was rather a disappointment – some popular features of the original game were removed, and furthermore, Warcraft 3 Reforged was full of bugs, with some of them being present until today.
One of the probably most annoying bugs a game can have is crashing completely, and it can happen to you in Warcraft 3 Reforged as well. Players keep reporting a bug which is most likely related to the games' minimap: They end up on their desktop after having clicked on it, and it also occurred for us in certain campaigns, particularly often in the Sentinel campaign chapter 4 "Wrath of the Betrayer", as well as in the Alliance campaign chapter 1 "Misconceptions".
Warcraft 3 Reforged Minimap Crash Bug: No Patch In Sight
The bad news is that Blizzard have neither released nor announced a patch that would fix the issue, and it seems actually unlikely that this will change. The game is out for several years now, and Blizzard will probably focus more on more valuable games like World of Warcraft or Diablo 4 than on a game that has a lower player base and that is widely considered a disappointment.
The good news is that there are some known workarounds that might not work for everyone, but you can at least give it a try.
Warcraft 3 Reforged Minimap Crash: Ideas How To Fix It
Here are some ideas you should consider trying to prevent Warcraft 3 Reforged from crashing when clicking the minimap:
- Try switching to different graphic settings to prevent the game from crashing. In particular, set "Particles" to "Low" and see whether that helps. For us, changing this setting solved it at least for the "Wrath of the betrayer" campaign (but not for the Blood Elves campaign "Misconceptions", unfortunately) and according to some forum entries, this solved it for other players as well.
- Change to the "classic" graphics and see if that solves it for you. Of course, this means worse graphics, but it could still be a compromise for you to finish a certain mission until you change it back.
- Don't use the minimap. It's hard, but possible. Don't forget to save your game from time to time, in case you accidentally click the minimap.
- Use a cheat code to proceed to the next mission. Yes, we know that this is of course not the most elegant way, but it could still be an alternative if the game just won't stop crashing at a certain point. To win the map, open the chat bar and type in "allyourbasearebelongtous" (without the quotation marks). Cheats will of course only work in offline maps like the single player campaign, and not in multiplayer battles.
