Popular CS:GO commentator Henry “HenryG” Greer shared first impressions of the upcoming Riot games first-person shooter, known as Project A. The Brit was called upon by Riot EU to test the developing game and he later went on Twitter to shed some light on what we are to expect from it.
Project A: Riot’s attempt at a FPS
For those unfamiliar with Riot Games, they are the company standing behind League of Legends. Riot first teased that they are developing a first-person shooting game at the LoL tenth anniversary in 2019, but we hadn’t gotten much info on the matter since then. That all changed now, courtesy of HenryG.
Despite him saying he can’t reveal too much, Henry’s tweets immediately brought the level of hype through the roof. Without further ado, here’s what he had to say about Project A.
The game is a 5v5 round-based tactical shooter in the vein of CS:GO, with the class elements of other shooters i.e. Overwatch. Sticking to the CS:GO/Overwatch mashup, Project A offers different “abilities” that can be purchased at the start of the round along with the regular weaponry and utility. This suggests an economic system like the one found in Counter-Strike.
Henry praised the gameplay, gun mechanics and weapons variation. Each weapon has its own unique spray pattern, situational advantages, and disadvantages, making gameplay enjoyable even without the class elements. Finally, he took his time to laud the map design, with maps focusing on “gameplay substance rather than flowery aesthetics”.
HenryG finished his brief review with a rather bold statement – that Project A is the best game he has played since Global Offensive. A link to the full thread can be found here.
Hype was already through the roof for the release of this game and statements like that are only making us that much impatient. Hurry up, Riot, give us what we want!
