LoL: Balancing Nightmare Item Set To Be Removed In Season 2024

Riot are making some big changes ahead of the 2024 season! The item rework will be partially reverted, which means that certain items will have to undergo big changes. Some items are not quite as lucky and will get removed instead. One of them is pretty much confirmed to leave the Rift.

Change is upon us! Earlier this summer, Riot Games have announced that the mythic item class will be removed from League of Legends. Despite multiple tweaks to the system and the items in question, the design team felt like their goals for mythic items were not met.

This led them to another set of mythic item changes on patch 13.10 as a last resort. When the goals for mythic items were still not met, the decision was made to remove the item class entirely.

Mythic Items Removed: This Item Will Not Make It To Season 2024

In his latest edition of Quick Gameplay Thoughts, Riot designer Matt 'Phroxzon' Leung-Harrison explained the goals for items ahead of the 2024 season. Next season, he wants to prevent items from warping their champion's gameplay too much.

With certain items, champions were quick to act like item effect deliverers rather than actual champions, and their gameplay would derive too much from what they envisioned the champion to do on their own. Apart from that, roughly half of the champion roster still did not find a mythic item that really fit them.

While many simple mythic items will have a bit of their power cut down and continue to exist as legendary items, other mythics that affect champions too much will be removed. Phroxzon lists Galeforce as one such example, which altered the gameplay of champions like Aphelios and Jhin so much they could not exist without it and had to be balanced alongside it.

While Riot's decisions on specific items are not yet final, the removal of Galeforce is extremely likely. After all, it has been too important for marksman players to ignore it while causing a lot of frustration with players of marksmen that would not utilize Galeforce properly. It is also in line with the changes to Stridebreaker and Prowler's Claw, both of which had their dashes removed.
