The League of Legends World Championship 2022 has ended only a few weeks ago, with DRX emerging victorious over T1. Seems like it has been the last time we've seen that DRX line-up. Legendary bot laner Deft has left to join another team.
DRX treated us to a one-of-a-kind run during the League of Legends World Championship. They've defied all odds and managed to get all the way to the finals, where they displayed not only incredible teamplay, but also mental toughness. It seems though, that game 5 of the Worlds Finals was the last time we'll ever see this squad together.
Their bot laner Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu was at the center of the attention in the days leading up to the Finals. A long and storied career for the 26-year-old, only missing the Summoner's Cup. In the end, he and his team managed to beat T1 and Faker, his old rival from high school days. The new-found success has not kept him with the World Champions of DRX. Deft is looking for a new challenge in 2023.
League of Legends: Deft Announced As Bot Laner For DWG KIA
From one World Championship Team to the other: Just very recently DWG KIA of the LCK broke some massive news on Twitter: Deft will be joining DAMWON Gaming for the 2023 season. This would've been a great announcement either way, but since Deft is now also a reigning World Champion, there is a lot of extra spice in DAMWON's newest acquisition.
[Announcement: Welcome]DWG KIA would like to introduce our new AD carry, Kim 'Deft' Hyuk-kyu. Please send lots of love and support for 'Deft', champion of the 2022 World Championship. Thank you.#DWGKIA #Welcome_Deft pic.twitter.com/lr2XmmrSIf

DWG KIA have been at the top of League of Legends Esports already. As many of you might remember, they managed to win the 2020 Worlds with a 3-1 performance against Suning, now known as Weibo Gaming. They have failed to defend their title in 2021, falling short against EDward Gaming.
They've also managed to qualify for the 2022 World Championship and many saw them as a dark horse to take home the Summoner's Cup once more. It wasn't to be, though. They matched up against Gen.G in the Quarterfinals, but narrowly lost out 2-3.
DWG KIA Going All Out For 2023
As it sits, DAMWON seems to be hellbent on winning it all in 2023. Aside from Deft, they've also signed new coaches in GorillA and Acorn, and since the depature of top laner Nuguri, they've come to terms with a capable replacement. Kim "Canna" Chang-dong, who has been playing for Nongshim RedForce and also T1, signed with DWG KIA only a few days ago.
No doubt about it, the 2023 LCK Spring Split will be action-packed once more! What do you think? Are the most recent acquisitions of DWG enough to once more challenge for a title at Worlds 2023? We'll be thrilled to find out and keep you up to date!
