With The 19th Asian Games just around the corner, some fans have started to imagine how international teams around the world could look like. So let's have a look, what teams are out there to challenge. Who do you think is the winner here?
One of the fun things in LoL esports is that they are very international. Every organization contracts players with a variety of nationalities, and they work together in harmony. Particularly in western regions like in the LCS or LEC there are many international teams. In contrast to China or Korea, where teams tend to be structured more national. So what if there would be a tournament in League of Legends where every country can send their own team but only with national players?
League of Legends At Asia Games
An international LoL-tournament with national team already exists. The Asian Games are a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. Organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), they are the continent's premier sports competition, featuring a wide range of Olympic-style events.
In 2018, esports, and thus League of Legends, was also added as a discipline. Sure, this is only the second time esports have featured at the games, but this gives esports a sense of validity it had been missing before.
After China's win in 2018 South Korea is trying to defeat their big neighbour in this year's 2022 Asian Games – because of COVID the event is taking place in 2023.
Luckily, the teams are already set so let's have a look at some of the seemingly stronger rosters, participating at the Event:
- China: Bin, JieJie, XUN, knight, Elk, Meiko
- South Korea: Zeus, Kanavi, Faker, Chovy, Ruler, Keria
- Chinese Taipei/ Taiwan: Hanabi, Rest, Karsa, FoFo, Doggo, SwordArt
- Vietnam: Kiaya, Levi, Kati, Glory, Artemis, Bie
We have to wait until the tournament is over to crown the favourite for a worldwide LoLympics. Nonetheless, after good performances in 2018 these countries teams are expected to do well, in this year, too.
Potential International Teams Worldwide
Now, we already have rosters for Asian teams that they already built themselves. So the question arises, who will compete against them from the other regions? Here are some ideas from a Reddit post – and some from us:
What Could Teams From The Americas Look Like?
With the LCS, North America has a pool of good players eager to play for a national team. Although, many LCS teams do have imported players, we made some combinations that seem the strongest. Since there are not as many countries in North America, we included South America, too – specifically Brazil who shine with a decent team.
- USA: Revenge, Blaber, Insanity, Doublelift, Busio
- Canada: Licorice, Sheiden, Jojopyun, Wildturtle and Vulcan
- Brazil: Robo, Revolta, Tinowns, MicaO, Céos
What Could Teams In Europe Look Like?
Europe has a vast system of players and a great pipeline for new talent, which means countries can have insanely stacked rosters. These are some of our dream European teams that would definitely win the LoLympics:
- Denmark: Wunder, Broxah, Caps, Kobbe, Zven
- France: Adam, Sheo, Vetheo, Hans Sama, Zoelys
- Sweden: Finn, Yike, Larssen, Rekkles, Promisq
- Germany: Broken Blade, Gilius, Abbedagge, Upset, Kaiser
There are other European nations with great players that also can make a difference. Countries like Poland with Jankos, Inspired, and Trymbi also might have a chance.
It would be very likely that Korea and China would be on top of the standings. These countries have a large amount of players playing at the highest level in different regions. On top of that, the LCK and LPL teams are always very successful at Worlds and MSI. No matter what the teams look like, it would be interesting to see how they perform in a tournament against each other. Would China and Korea just destroy the other countries? If so, who takes the third place? I'd be happy if there would be a tournament like LoLympics or if esports is accepted as a sport and is integrated to the Olympic Games.
