League of Legends Patch 12.22 is a big one. The preseason is underway with new items, whole new jungle mechanics and much more on the rift. So let's go over the patch and what you can expect.
League of Legends Patch 12.22 has just released. This patch holds the 2023 preseason. Hold still, because you're going to have a lot to read up on if all you've been doing is watching Worlds instead of checking out the 2023 preseason.
The end of the season is upon us, which means we're getting a new Victorious skin, as well as some interesting changes that will be shaking up the current League of Legends meta. Will we also be getting some buffs and nerfs though?
LoL Patch 12.22: The Preseason Is Underway
The biggest and most important change in this patch will definitely be the preseason 2023. The chemtech drake is making a return to Summoner's Rift after having been removed early in Season 12. This drake will be making the fauna and flora on the map even more toxic, while also giving players some added stats for killing them.
But, as is usual for the preseason we've also got some new items making their way into the meta. Sure, one item was suspected to get some players banned, though Riot has come out and said that it isn't the item, but rather a spell in the game at the root of the issue.

Not only is Riot making big changes to items, the jungle and monsters, but there will also be huge quality of life changes added, like more pings, better /remake systems and ways to improve communication without having to add voice chat to an already toxic game like League of Legends.

Updates to the Surrender System
If one of your teammates go AFK, then starting in LoL Patch 12.22 you'll be able to remake your game much sooner than before. Instead of torturing yourself through 10 minutes of a game you know you'll lose, the timer has been moved up to 3:30. So now you can surrender the game much sooner if someone went AFK.
- No More Dead Zone: Teams have the option to call a unanimous early surrender vote if an AFK player is detected on their team between 10:00 and 15:00 ⇒ 3:30 and 15:00
Cho'Gath and Nunu Damage Buffs
With the preseason taking hold of the patch there are not many concrete champion updates in terms of buffs and nerfs heading onto the live servers. Two champions will be getting buffed though.
Cho'Gath is the first champion on the list who will get some love. His damage to non champions will be hiked up.
R - Feast
- Base damage to non-champs:: 1000 ⇒ 1200
The next champion on the list is none other than our dear friend Nunu & Willump who will have their Q damage also increased:
Q - Consume
- Damage to non-champs: 340-980 ⇒ 400-1200
These buffs have been implemented due to the smite changes in the upcoming League of Legends patch. Hopefully these adjustments will keep the champions competitive in solo queue.
New Classifications For Champions
Two champions are also getting new classifications. Both Rakan and Lillia will be classified as melee champions going forward. Lillia also received small buffs in this patch.
- Base Health: 625 ⇒ 605
- Health Growth: 104 ⇒ 105
End of Season 12: Victorious Sejuani
LoL Patch 12.22 will also mark the end of Season 12. Each year players that participate in the ranked season will be rewarded with a special skin called a Victorious skin. In the last few years we've seen a support, bot laner and top laner. It was about time we also got a jungler and who better than Sejuani?
Riot usually picks a champion that had an impact on the meta throughout the year and as the season went on, Sejuani became one of the best junglers in the game thanks to her play making abilities, as well as her tankiness which meant she was able to go in and start off fights without getting killed right after.
ARAM Balance Changes in LoL Patch 12.22
Riot is also pushing for some more diverse changes in ARAM this time around. With these changes they're hoping to help out struggling classes, while nerfing some overtuned ones, without having to just buff and nerf damage ratios.
- Plus 20% bonus Energy Regen on ARAM: Akali, Kennen, Lee Sin, and Zed.
- Plus 20% Tenacity on ARAM: Akali, Ekko, Elise, Evelynn, Fizz, Kassadin, Katarina, Kayn, Kha’Zix, LeBlanc, Pyke, Qiyana, Rek’Sai, Rengar, Talon, and Zed.
- Removing: 20 Ability Haste on Ashe
Some players are concerned about the added changes to AD assassins, but according to Riot Maxw3ll, assassins, who are supposed to be bad at teamfights, suffer in a game mode that is all about team fighting.
New LoL Space Groove Skins in Patch 12.22
We also have to stay on topic and talk about the upcoming skins in League of Legends Patch 12.22. We're stayin' alive with the grooviest skins out there which are the Space Groove skins. Once more our boomer champion Zilean isn't getting a skin, even if he would fit so well into the Space Disco theme....
These are all the champions getting Space Groove skins in Patch 12.22:
- Space Groove Ornn
- Space Groove Gragas
- Space Groove Twisted Fate
- Space Groove Nami
- Space Groove Nami Prestige Edition
- Space Groove Lissandra
- Space Groove Teemo
- Space Groove Taric
Teemo will be getting a legendary skin, while Nami is on the receiving end of a prestige skin. This is going to be the second to last skin line revealed in 2022, so be prepared for something crazy and new in 2023, like some new Coven skins. What skins would you like to see in the next year?
