LoL Patch 12.9 PBE: Pyke Mid Nerfs

We know that Taliyah and Olaf will be receiving mid-scope updates in Patch 12.9, but is there any other information on champion buffs and nerfs on the PBE server?

Get out your kegs and celebrate. As May is nearing, so is finals season, which means university students are just one step closer to freedom for the summer. What does that mean? More time to play League of Legends!

So what changes can you expect in your solo queue games for the next patch? We know that in Patch 12.8, Swain is receiving his mid-scope update, but he isn't the only champion Riot has been working on. Olaf and Taliyah will get some love, and a few other champs are also on the list for changes. Let's check them all out!

Mid-Scope Updates in Patch 12.9

Olaf Mid-Scope Update

Olaf is finally going to be a decent champion again in Patch 12.9. At least we hope so. Sure, he's getting a shield, which is a bit odd for a viking of his power, but we're going to have to wait and see just how powerful this champion is going to be.

Hell, Riot is changing some things so much that they're even thinking of renaming one of his abilities. There is a lot going into the Olaf mid-scope update, but for a full list, make sure to check out our in-depth article.

Taliyah Mid-Scope Update

Taliyah is another champion in need of some love from Riot. She's got a unique and fun kit, but it's so different that it makes her unplayable unless you're a hardcore Taliyah one-trick pony. That's why Riot is making some changes to have her be more versatile.

The stun and range in her E is going to be great and while she loses much of her burst she's got some AoE on her Q which is something Riot had removed eons ago due to it being just way too OP. For a full run down of changes Riot is planning for Taliyah, check out our designated article about the Taliyah mid-scope update.

Pyke Changes in Patch 12.9

In League of Legends Patch 12.8, Pyke was supposed to be getting some changes since he's just too powerful in the mid lane right now. Sure, his laning isn't the best, but he sports a win rate of almost 55% at the end of Patch 12.7, and that should tell you a lot about how powerful this champion is in the mid lane right now.

So, what changes has Riot planned for him to bring his mid lane power down a notch?

AbilitiesChanges on PBE
Bone Skewer (Q)
  • Mana cost increased from 55 - 70 to 78 - 90
  • Tap Q also slows target
  • Q mana refund increased from 50% to 75%
  • If Q hits a champ now refunds 75% mana
Death From Below (R)
  • No longer grants gold to Pyke again if he kills the target

Will these changes have any effect on Pyke in the mid lane for Patch 12.9? He has been a dominant pick and fits well into the solo queue meta, but will some mana changes as well as the lack of gold stop him from being such a prominent pick?

Yuumi Visual Update In Patch 12.9

Yuumi it getting a brand new skin in League of Legends Patch 12.9 to celebrate EDG winning the 2021 World Championship, but that's not all. The bot lane cat is also going to have her recall animations shown even when she is attached to her bot laner.

This includes the unique backing animations for her skins except for Battle Principal Yuumi, because the desk which appears could impair her partner's vision.

Sion Nerfs Incoming

Sion is also getting a slight nerf in the next patch to his passive. The zombie damage against towers has been reduced for the next patch. But if we're honest, not too many people play Sion, so is this even that big of a deal?

LoL Patch 12.9 Release Date

The next League of Legends patch is going to be released on May 11, 2022. This is one day after the start of the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational. So make sure you're ready for all the action heading your way.

With Patch 12.9 releasing in two weeks, we still have no sign of Bel'Veth getting released anytime soon. When will the Void completely take over the League of Legends client, and who can we expect after the Empress of the Void?
