The LEC 2022 Spring Season reached its halfway mark tonight with Rogue ending the first round robin undefeated at 9-0. Behind them, five teams are within one win of each other as both Fnatic and G2 Esports lost their games.
The first half of the spring split ended on Saturday with a showdown between the yet-undefeated Rogue and one of the main contenders, G2 Esports. The rest of the games looked one-sided on paper, but it would not be a LEC season if we didn’t see some huge upsets.
Vetheo Carries Misfits to Victory
Speaking of upsets, SK Gaming got several kills in the opening minutes of their game with Misfits Gaming and looked poised to take over the game. However, a kill in the mid lane led to a first tower for Misfits that equalized the gold. At the 17-minute mark, Vincent "Vetheo" Berrié’s Yasuo took over, getting four kills in a huge teamfight win. With this gold injection, the French midlaner was unleashed and he absolutely demolished SK in teamfights, ending with 12 kills and ensuring a dominant win for his team.
MAD Win Slugfest against BDS
MAD Lions and Team BDS fought hard over a 45-minute game. While the Lions had the early lead, BDS’ aggression paid dividends in several fights. A brilliant punish of MAD splitting up after the second drake gave the newcomers 4 kills and the Baron. However, the same aggression cost them later as they overcommited to kill William "UNF0RGIVEN" Nieminen. This allowed MAD to get back in the game and after a lot of back and forth, the Lions were able to bring it home.

So Close, and yet So Far
We expected Team Vitality to have an easy time with the struggling Astralis and we were dead wrong. Vitality were somewhat uncoordinated in the top lane early on and their opponents took full advantage. At the 15 minute mark, the favorites were 4K down. It all seemed decided 27 minutes in as Astralis once again killed Barney "Alphari" Morris and went for the Baron, only for Oskar "Selfmade" Boderek to come through with a hero steal. This extended the game and eventually, Vitality got a good engage, aced Astralis and took the game.
Combo Breaker for Excel!
After a match against Rogue on Friday, Excel Esports had to take on Fnatic today. A daunting task - but Excel’s aggressive early game actually saw them get ahead in a very bloody game. 22 minutes in, they seized the moment with a decisive engage that netted them four kills and the Baron. Fnatic found no way to turn the game around in the face of this full court press and eventually found themselves routed in their own base, suffering their first loss to Excel in the team's history.
Rogue Break the Curse
The match of the week between G2 Esports and Rogue started quite slowly, with the two teams feeling each other out. However, in a matter of several minutes Rogue got first blood and then several more kills, amassing a 2K lead at 15 minutes. Emil "Larssen" Larsson's Corki was fed and at 21 minutes, he used his package to explode the enemy bot lane and secure a key win for his team. Rogue got Baron, pressed hard and secured their ninth consecutive win in just under 25 minutes and their first regular season win against G2.
