Taliyah's mid-scope update went live in LoL Patch 12.9. She might have less burst, but she's finally made her way back to the mid lane after the update!
Taliyah hasn't been the most popular pick in recent years. Even though she is a unique and fun champions, there was just too much in her kit that made her impossible to pick up for casual players, which was one reason why she hasn't received the attention she deserved on Summoner's Rift.
So let's check out just how much Taliyah has improved since her mid-scope update! Did it help her out in play rate and win rate? Spoiler: Yes it did.
Taliyah Mid Is Back
Taliyah in the mid lane has been nothing more than a myth in recent times, but now the champion is finally back thanks to the extensive mid-scope update which has improved her play rate and win rate. She now sports at 51% win rate in the mid lane and her play rate has skyrocketed to 7.8% as well.
That is a pretty high jump from being one of the worst and least played champion in the mid lane in Patch 12.8. According to lolalytics, she was ranked 79/102 of all mid lane champions, but has since jumped up to 6/102. We can safely say she's an S-tier mid laner now, right?
The ability to remove Worked Ground has greatly improved her laning. Also, giving her Threaded Volley an AoE effect once more has also done wonders for her mid lane presence. This made her early game much more bearable in the mid lane even with the decrease in burst damage.
Is Taliyah Jungle Still Viable?
While Taliyah has seen more play time in the jungle in recent times, this mid-scope update has pushed her back into the mid lane. But that does not mean she isn't a good jungler in LoL Patch 12.9 anymore. No, she's still great in the jungle as well. Sure, her jungle play rate has dropped from over 50% to 35% in the span of one patch, but that shouldn't dissuade you from enjoying some jungle Taliyah.
August Riot did note on Reddit that right now, jungle Taliyah looks balanced, maybe even a bit weak. But the team is going to put off doing any buffs and nerfs just yet, due to the upcoming durability update in LoL Patch 12.10.
More Mid-Scope Updates to Follow
Thanks to the success of the Taliyah mid-scope update, as well as the ones to Swain and Olaf, Riot August has stated that the champions team will likely be working on more mid-scope updates in the future.
These are updates for underperforming champions to refresh aspects of their kit to try amnd make them more attractive to players. Ryze, Taric and Rell would definitely fit the bill for those in the future.
But we will have to wait for the upcoming durability update to hit the rift to know how effective Taliyah continues to be. So far, her mid-scope update has been a success, but will she still be OP in the mid lane once she deals less damage against tankier opponents?
