Tyler1 has recently gone on stream and revealed how he feels about the LCS walkout and especially his thoughts on the Academy situation, calling it a waste of money.
Tyler1 has recently outed his opinion on the state of Academy, as well as the result of it which is the LCS walkout. Of course, it's Tyler1, so his opinion could be considered quite controversial, but it does raise some questions of the future of League and how the Academy system can and should be improved upon.
Tyler "Tyler1" Steinkamp, is a well-known League of Legends streamer and he has had enough of the Academy system, calling players who play in Academy "lazy" and complacent.
Tyler1 Calls Out LCS Academy And Failed System
The LCS players have gone on strike after Riot announced that LCS teams did not have to field an Academy Roster going forward. From the ten teams, three have decided to keep their Academy system, while the remaining slots in the Academy League have been filled with new teams.

This change has prompted the LCS Player Association to step in and call off a player walkout, which has resulted in a delay of the 2023 LCS Summer Split. Of course this controversy has also garnered a lot of attention from streamers and content creators. Tyler1 has also weighed in on the issue, stating that he believes that Academy is a failed system filled with players who are simply there to cash in a few easy paychecks.
For those who say it’s to develop talent, those players are not leaving the Academy. 90 percent will never see LCS. They know. The pros know. The coaches know. Everybody knows. They’re not going to ever touch the LCS.
Tyler1 basically explains that Academy has become nothing more than a "comfortable home" for players and that they do not have the drive to try and make it into the LCS, or if they were previously playing in the LCS to make it back into the big leagues.
Academy is just a comfortable home and they're just paycheck thieves. They get money for free – kuje 70K a year for free for doing the bare minimum.
Tyler explains that players will lose their drive once they make it to Academy, stating that once they get signed they stop playing solo queue and practicing since they've got the comfortable paycheck from Riot to play in Academy. The problem? The academy does not make any money, due to the lack of interest from the public.
He also went on to state that there has not been any decent NA talent in years that has come through Academy or the Path to Pro, but now that the League and Riot are doing something to cut costs, players and fans all of a sudden care about the system.

NA sucks, so we just need to pick our hill to die on. Do we want to pretend that we care or do we want to embrace sucking and just become full for-fun content.
It seems that players and fans are stuck between a rock and a hard place. While Academy has been suffering and with the amount of imports in NA in recent years, less and less local talent has been able to play, there needs to be a change to promote young NA talent to play in the LCS.
While Academy has been a failure, with many older players using the league as a safety net when they aren't good enough and other younger players becoming complacent, the idea is a decent one. Riot will just have to do more to keep players motivated, as well as introduce ways for team owners to somehow stay profitable.
