As the curtain prepares to close on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington's romantic saga in Season 3, Bridgerton fans eagerly await the unfolding drama of Season 4. Now, showrunner Jess Brownell has spoken on the release window.
Fans of Netflix's hit series "Bridgerton" are in for a prolonged wait, as the showrunner has already given us a release window estimate, although the exact release date for Season 4 remains a mystery. The series, known for its opulent sets and engaging Regency-era romance, has captivated viewers, but it takes an awful long time to make.
Bridgerton Season 4 Release Window Estimation
Bridgerton was confirmed for both a third and fourth season back in 2021, an announcement that sparked much excitement among the fans. Currently, the series is wrapping up the second half of Season 3, which only adds to the anticipation for what Season 4 could unfold.
Yet, the specifics about the next season, including its release date, are slight. Filming is rumored to start in June 2024, and based on what the showrunner has recently revealed, this means we will need to wait until at least 2026 for Bridgerton Season 4. Considering the time required for production and post-production on a period drama like this, we aren't surprised (although we are a little frustrated).
Bridgerton Season 4 Plot & Cast Details
The plot for Season 4 remains under wraps, but speculation suggests it could revolve around a different Bridgerton sibling, following the pattern of each season focusing on a new family member's romantic ventures. Season 3, for instance, departed from the books by centering on Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, rather than focusing solely on Benedict Bridgerton's storyline from the books. This creative liberty hints that Season 4 could also offer fresh twists and turns not directly aligned with Julia Quinn's novels.
The cast is expected to remain exactly the same, with no news emerging so far about any changes.
Showrunner Speaks On Production Time Frame
As Season 3 wraps up, the discussion about which Bridgerton sibling will get their own installment next is heating up. While Luke Thompson's Benedict and Claudia Jessie’s Eloise are fan favorites, showrunner Jess Brownell recently teased at the U.K. premiere for part two, hinting that the writing team is still in the thick of creating the new season. “I have almost slipped up a couple of times, so keep asking, and maybe I’ll slip up,” Brownell joked, expressing her excitement about the new scripts.
Brownell's enthusiasm is palpable as she describes the current stage of production: “We’re towards the end with the writers' room season, with the scripts. And I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers' room’s best work. We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders, so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have,” she shared enthusiastically during the event.
The showrunner also detailed the challenges of speeding up the release process: “We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film, and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” she continued. “And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.”
Continued Popularity & Fan Base Growth
Despite the delay, enthusiasm for Bridgerton remains high. The show has successfully expanded its fan base with each season, thanks to its unique blend of historical elements with modern-day storytelling flair. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes has hinted at future seasons exploring more Bridgerton siblings, ensuring that the saga continues to evolve and capture hearts.
