In Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2, several new items have been introduced to the game, including the new Icarus Wings. And even though these wings come with some weaknesses, content creators like Martoz have seen huge potential in the wings and discovered several tricks.

However, Epic Games reacted within a few days of the new season and nerfed the wings. On March 12, the first duo cup was held, primarily to check server performance, which left much to be desired last season. That the new Wings of Icarus would bring an even bigger problem was unexpected by many.

Fortnite Performance Cup Round 1 - What Happened?

In the "Fortnite Performance Evaluation", the top 50 duos from Round 1 qualify for the final round, where the top 5 duos each win a prize of 400 dollars. After 2 hours, the leaderboard was set and besides new duo combinations like Falcon TaySon together with Wave Vadeal, one team surprised everyone.

The Poles MatikZsR and Crystal qualified with 3 epic wins, a second place, and just 3 eliminations! Polish players like Qrei have developed the craziest strategies in the past, but this one topped them all.

What Was the Strategy?

The two Poles landed in The Underworld every round to get the Wings of Icarus from the new god chests. Then, they rotated west of Rebel's Roost to fish for some Floppers. Additionally, they collected 6 Medkits each round and occasionally Slurp Packs if the fish weren't enough.

One of them, if necessary, stayed in the storm to continue fishing. The other used the new wings to rotate into the zone. So far, so good, but here's where it gets crazy.

How Does It Work?

The two discovered a key combination that allows you to fly to the maximum height of the map. The special thing: The wings don't get consumed and stay at 300 points! Moreover, the player is so high up that no one can hit them. Then, his teammate brings the fish into the zone.

One of them stays in the air until the end of the round and heals against the storm at the end. Since he hasn't taken any storm damage and still has the perfect healing items left, he will never lose this heal-off.

To stay airborne with the wings, they found a key combination consisting of "Quick Bar Switch", "Fire", "Cursor Mode", and the Inventory. The two Poles explained this to the German streamer Amar live after the cup. If you press these in the right sequence at the right speed with the Wings of Icarus, you fly to the ceiling of the map without ever consuming the wings!

What Does This Mean for Fortnite And How Has Epic Games Reacted?

The two have since been removed from the leaderboard. Even though they didn't use any cheats or hacks, Bug-Abusing is still forbidden. Epic Games recently posted on X, formerly Twitter, "Reminder: intentionally exploiting any game function (e.g., an in-game Bug or glitch) in a manner not intended by Epic to gain a competitive advantage is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action."

Whether the two were banned or just received a partial suspension for Fortnite Competitive is unknown to us. However, Epic intends to continue to combat bug-abusing and patch affected items. It remains to be seen how Fortnite Competitive will evolve this season.

But please remember: Do not use such bugs, you will be caught soon and your account could be banned! Even though the two guys didn't use any hacks, Epic has officially prohibited bug-abusing.

Play fair and do your best. If there's something new to this topic, we will update you again. Until then, good luck in the next Cash Cup!
