A 9-year-old boy killed his father in their own home. Now prosecutors are blaming video games on this needless murder.
Last month, a 9-year-old boy was arrested in connection with his father's death. The boy was arrested shortly after first responders came to their home, finding his father unconscious and bleeding from a gunshot wound to his head. There were also signs of defensive wounds on the fathers arms and head.
Now prosecutors are stating that the boy was influenced by popular and violent video games like Call of Duty, shifting the blame onto the games industry.
Call of Duty Gets Blamed For Murder
According to Yahoo News, the murder happened in Tooele, Utah. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the unconscious body of a 32-year-old father with a gunshot wound to the head. His 9-year-old son was arrested.
According to reports – probably from the two adult roommates also living there — the father and son had gone to bed early that night after the boy had been misbehaving. Sources have told police and investigators that the 9-year-old has struggled with behavioral issues in the past.
Prosecutors have decided to hone in on the video games the boy liked to play, though, with sources explaining that the boy had an affinity for "particularly violent" games. One of those games, as per prosecutors, is one with similar guns and hatches, as were allegedly used in the murder.
The boy was known to consume videos which were not age appropriate as was told to the authorities, and he spent a lot of time playing video games and on his phone.
The investigation into the murder is currently ongoing, with it still being unclear what charges the 9-year-old is facing.
