As the release of 'Assassin's Creed Shadows' draws near, here's a breakdown of everything we know so far about the game's setting, new features, and thrilling gameplay enhancements.
The official world premiere trailer from Assassin's Creed Shadows is now 3 weeks old and last weekend the first gameplay trailer got revealed at the Xbox Game Showcase 2024.
The images, which surprisingly appeared online before being taken down, were recovered and shared by AC fans, demonstrating that you can't delete anything on the internet. The artwork reveals two protagonists: a male African Samurai named Yasuke and a female Shinobi named Naoe.
As previous leaks confirmed, these two will start as rivals but soon enough work together to unify Japan. A duo of playable characters is already well known for old AC fans, as we had Jacob and Evie Frye in Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Whether the dual split will work similarly or not will be answered in the future.
In the new gameplay trailer, which we saw last weekend, there were great scenes from both characters. Naoe jumpes around and kills enemies in the old-fashioned AC style with the hidden blade (and a lot of flips, which is kind of unnecessary, but it looks cool so idc) and Yasuke is a real one-man army giant, whose play style is a lot like the previous AC titles were. Also, Yasuke is based on a real life person with the same name, who was the first black Samurai in feudal Japan. Notable characters such as Oda Nobunaga, Akechi Mitsuhide, and Hattori Hanzo are expected to play significant roles, as Ubi loves to implement historical figures into the storyline.
Moreover, the story is set to take creative liberties with Yasuke's background, reimagining his origins, so don't worry reading about him… You probably won't get spoiled, but if you want to know what has been leaked about the changes so far.
Spoilers incoming!
Yasuke was a slave, travelling on a ship, that got attacked. After the attack, he miraculously survived due to a rescuer and found himself in Japan. There he learned the art of the Samurai.
Who Was Yasuke?
Yasuke's historical tale is as fascinating as it is mysterious. He is noted to have been an African man who arrived in Japan during the 16th century, serving under the prominent daimyo Oda Nobunaga. Yasuke is recognized as the first black samurai, whose unique position in Japanese history makes him the perfect candidate for an interesting protagonist! Stay tuned for more.
