Bethesda's Todd Howard Discusses Fallout's Future, Dampens Hopes For New Game Anytime Soon

Bethesda's Todd Howard recently provided insight into the future of the Fallout franchise during an extensive interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays. While fans eagerly await news of the next installment, Howard's comments suggest that patience will be required.

During the hour-long discussion, Howard touched on several Bethesda projects, including Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and the recently launched Starfield.

However, the spotlight was on Fallout as Howard acknowledged its growing popularity, largely due to the success of Amazon's Fallout TV series. This newfound interest has brought millions of new players to the franchise.

No Rush For The Next Fallout Game

Despite the growing fan base, Howard indicated that there is no rush to release a new Fallout game. He emphasized that the current focus is on maintaining the quality and depth that fans have come to expect from Bethesda's titles.

According to Howard, rushing the development process is not part of the plan. The ongoing content for Fallout 76 and the storytelling in the TV series are currently meeting the narrative needs of the franchise.

"I totally get the desire for a new kind of ‘mainline’ single-player game, but those things take time. I don’t think it’s bad for people to miss things, as well. We just want to get it right and make sure that everything we’re doing in a franchise, whether it’s Elder Scrolls or Fallout or now Starfield, that those become meaningful moments for everybody who loves these franchises as much as we do."

A Legendary Franchise With A Strong Legacy

The post-apocalyptic series, which has captivated gamers for over twenty-five years, spans a wide range of games from MMORPGs to action RPGs in both first- and third-person perspectives. While the wait for a new single-player game continues, Howard assures fans that Bethesda Game Studios is committed to the integrity and quality of its projects. The development of new content for other franchises such as Elder Scrolls and Starfield is currently taking precedence (and to be honest, TES 6 is more than overdue!).

Although it has been nearly a decade since the last Fallout single-player game, the enduring appeal of the franchise and the studio's commitment to excellence suggest that when the next game arrives, it will be well worth the wait.
