Disney and Epic Games have just shared their plans on a massive year-long project that could serve as a hub for massive franchises and countless fans, not only gamers. By creating an online theme park, The Walt Disney Company and Epic Games aim to bring together fans of massive franchises like Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more.

It will offer opportunities for consumers to play, watch, shop, and engage with content in a "Disney" kind of way.

Disney x Epic Games Online Theme Park Announced

Disney and Epic Games already have a history of working together via Fortnite, but now they have teamed up again to create something big.

This project really does seem to have come straight out of a science fiction movie. Or, perhaps, this is just what modernity looks like; you've probably all seen the dystopian videos of people using the Apple Vision Pro in public...

Disney will invest $1.5 billion to acquire an equity stake in Epic Games as part of the collaboration, aimed to expand the reach of Disney stories and experiences through a new universe.

The Disney x Epic Games theme park will feature franchises such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and many more. While attached to Fortnite and powered by Epic Games' Unreal Engine, this online and virtual theme park will offer users the possibility to play games, engage with other players or characters from different franchises, shop virtual content, watch movies, and much more.

"This marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of games and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion. We can’t wait for fans to experience the Disney stories and worlds they love in groundbreaking new ways.” ~ Robert A. Iger, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company

We believe that this project has potential to grow into something groundbreaking. It clearly shows the ongoing trend of blurring lines between different forms of media, such as gaming, movies, and streaming. It could offer us a totally different approach to storytelling and entertainment across various platforms, while also connecting people from diverse fandoms and bringing them together in one hub.

What do you think about this new project? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
