Shadow of the Erdtree, Eldem Ring's first major DLC, might have a multi-level map with a new underground area similar to the main game.
Elden Ring is one of the best games ever made, and that's not only my opinion as a FromSoft fanboy – after all, Elden Ring won the Game of the Year reward in 2022. Two years later, FromSoftware is about to release the first major DLC for the game, called Shadow of the Erdtree. While we still have a bit of time until it releases on June 21, 2024, the community is already hyped and the speculations about what every little detail in the trailer could mean are running wild.
Now, one of the bosses shown in the trailer sparked some rumors about the possibility of a multi-level map in Shadow of the Erdtree.
Shadow of the Erdtree Map Will Have Underground Area
Elden Ring had a huge map and many players were taken by surprise when they first traveled to the underground and found a whole new region located under the map. Areas like Siofra River, Ainsel River and Deeproot Depths will already provide several hours of playtime and add a lot to the already huge map.
After the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer dropped and players started discussing it, fans are now convinced that one of the bosses, the pale skeleton rider shown in a huge dark cave (minute 2:19), confirms another underground area, located below the Land of Shadow. In this reddit thread a user asked for opinions about the boss and while people aren't sure about any details on the boss, they seem to be sure about the area shown:
Either way an underground boss hopefully means the world is going to be multi-level like Sophra/Ansel
My theory is pretty obvious and simple: This enemy shows that there is a map beneath the map.
We already know that the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will be set on a map separated from the map of the main game. The DLC will take place in The Land of Shadow, which obviously will not be as big as the Lands Between. However, the main game already had a lot of smaller and bigger dungeons, as well as underground areas that added significantly to the size of the overworld map. Taking this into account, it doesn't really come as a big surprise that The Land of Shadow will also have a multi-level map, with dungeons and probably even a whole new underground area.
What are your thoughts on Shadow of the Erdtree so far? Do you like the new crazy weapons and bosses, shown in the trailer and will you already pre-order the DLC ?
