Insider Jeff Grubb is claiming that the Nintendo Direct has been delayed. He's been wrong about Nintendo Direct dates before, but there is actually some logic behind this claim.
In a rather bizarre turn of events, Xbox are planning to give the world an update on their future plans via... the Official Xbox Podcast. This is a great podcast, but it still feels like a strange way to present such important information.
"But I'm a Nintendo fanboy you, this doesn't affect me" you might be thinking. Wrong! Because of the Xbox Podcast, Nintendo have apparently chosen to delay their Nintendo Direct Showcase.
Nintendo Direct Showcase Now Expected Later In February
According to Jeff Grubb the Nintendo Direct showcase has been moved because of the Xbox update:
heard earlier this week that they were discussing moving the Direct *because* of the Xbox business update. I've never known the date for sure. I've only ever heard by the middle of Feb.
If this is true, we expect the showcase to come in late-Feb; they will want a bit of space between the showcase and the Xbox update, but more than a week or two seems unnecessary.
Remember, we might soon be getting news about the Switch 2 at one of these showcases, which would make it far more important than a run-of-the-mill trailer compilation. We will update you as soon as we hear anything official on the Nintendo Direct Showcase, but they usually only announce these events a few days beforehand.
Can We Trust Jeff Grubb?
Jeff Grubb is a reporter for VentureBeat's GamesBeat website, and he's the host of one of the bigger gaming news podcasts. He's also been to known leak information on occasion, and he's been correct at least a few times. However, in regard to Nintendo Direct specifically, Jeff Grubb has a poor track-record. In fact, he's been wrong about the Nintendo Direct so many times that many of the users on r/Nintendo now ignore his claims:
Can we agree now that Jeff Grubb is not a reliable "Nintendo insider"? by u/razorbeamz in nintendo
Whether he's correct or not in this case will soon become obvious. We'll keep you posted.
