A new era beings: For the first time, players will be able to create a woman as part of the MLB "Road to the Show" mode. This will allow female players to prove themselves in the male-dominated sport and break new ground.
With Road to the Show: Women Pave Their Way, a new addition to the Road to the Show mode, players will be able to create and play female characters. In addition to tracing the player character's journey to success, the Women Pave Their Way mode will showcase a distinctive plot that includes an original female character and her enduring friendship with the player.
MLB The Show Wanted To Create Something "Where Dreams Become A Reality"
Mollie Braley, Narrative Designer, says in an interview on PlayStation.Blog:
"This feature was inspired by the stories of women in baseball. Throughout history, women have been making waves in the sport. Our team wanted to create something where dreams become a reality, and we felt like adding this to Road to the Show was the perfect opportunity that gave our players the option to experience this"
For the first time ever, there will be a buddy character in RTTS. Mia Lewis, childhood friend of the RTTS player and a fellow ballplayer, exemplifies the camaraderie crucial to success both on and off the field. Mia will be a support system and a competitive player in her own right. The relationship with her in-game will grow and evolve throughout the player's career.
Players' Opinions Are Divided
Looking at the comments under the announcement trailer for MLB The Show 24 — Women Pave Their Way on YouTube, many male players expressed disappointment and stated that they will not buy the game now that women are featured.
Comments like "If a woman tried to play in MLB in real life, within 10 seconds they’d either give up or demand MLB to change the game to accommodate their physical shortcomings" or "Men pave the way with greatness, and then women ruin it in the end. With literally everything". It appears that a significant portion of the MLB community has an issue with the inclusion of playable female characters in the game.
