Remember the Carrack .300? No? Didn't think so. This is probably the most forgettable season of all time. We had Vondel to play, and there were some good hip-hop collabs with Snoop, Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage, but that was it. | © Activision
This has to be one of the least eventful seasons of all time, but it did at least introduce a ranked mode to Warzone, which is crucial for long-term engagement. | © Activision
MWII's take on Halloween was underwhelming at best, but it was probably one of the best Battle Passes we ever had with Spawn, and if you upgraded to the BlackCell you could get robot Valeria. The balance was also in a healthy place, with a fairly broad range of viability, at least in close-range. | © Activision
Ashika Island and the first changes as they slowly gave in to what most fans wanted. Not a great map, in fact maybe the worst medium-small map, but better than Al Mazrah. | © Activision
The last season of each year is usually quite understated; the fans and devs alike are looking toward the new game. In Vanguard, it felt like they completely let go of any thematic consistency and decided to "have some fun with it", which is why we got a laser rifle, the "Rage Serum" Field Upgrade, and a volcano opened at Peak. Definitely not the best season, but far from terrible. | © Activision
This was a boring season. It felt like Warzone still needed to readjust to the new normal; now it was just another BR, it didn't have all the casual Covid players, and more was needed to keep us engaged. Yes, the LC-10 was a fun SMG, but there really wasn't much actual content. | © Activision
Vondel released. There wasn't much to celebrate besides, but that alone makes this a solid season, as Vondel remains one of the better Warzone maps of all time. It's both well-balanced and fun, and it provides the kind of urban combat that Warzone fans have been loving since Verdansk. | © Activision
By this point, after two years of only having one big map, fatigue had really begun to set in hard. They didn't do much to try and "save" Verdansk, and instead focused on hyping up the fans for Vanguard, with the WWII bunkers and the Last Days of Verdansk event. They were able to get us excited for Caldera, but they never gave us much reason to keep playing Verdansk, except to say goodbye. | © Activision
Not much changed with this season, besides the addition of Red Doors, which were stupid but fun, and Dirt Bikes, which were also stupid but fun. Also, if you played an absolute ton in the first few hours after launch then you got to enjoy the MG-82 pre-nerf, which was an absurdly strong weapon. | © Activision
This was a surprisingly strong season, thanks to the return of Rebirth for those who disliked Caldera (and that was a lot of the playerbase). Plus, we received some important new features that were basically CoD's version of the Evac Tower and Heat Shield from Apex. We also had a new vehicle, the Bomber, and while planes sadly only existed during this one year of Warzone, they were super fun to pilot. | © Activision
Urzikstan disappointing, it felt like Verdansk without the magic, but in every other way it felt like a return to form for Warzone. We had a higher-TTK, far better movement, a bunch of competitive new weapons to use, and some interesting new perks like Mountaineer, Shrouded and Irradiated. | © Activision
By Warzone's third season, there was definitely a slight feeling of fatigue beginning to set in for many casual players, but it was counter-balanced by a great season for the meta, with the CR-56 rising to prominence. Sadly, this was also the same season that Roze and the Kali Sticks were released... | © Activision
Fortune's Keep was re-released during this season with a few map changes and a new lightbox. The new changes were not super popular, but this is still a beloved map. We also received Resurgence Ranked, which is massive for the long-term health of the game. | © Activision
This was another understated season, with not much to make it stand out, but some great smaller additions. We had two great new perks to use in Tempered and Combat Scout, and a new style of weapon in the EM2, which was difficult to use but also rewarding. The EM2 was a great step forward for the devs, who for the first time seemed to really understand how to create a high-skill and a low-skill meta, and support both types of players. | © Activision
Caldera was our first new big map, and although it's only looked back on as C-tier map, it was still very exciting to explore something new. Sadly, it was very buggy, and after the first week's nerf to the Automaton the balancing team seemed to go on holiday, which meant the Bren was far too good for far too long during Vanguard's first season. With this season we saw the return of a small map into the rotation for Resurgence: Fortune's Keep. It's a beautiful map, with interesting POIs, and a good overall flow, which definitely helped breathe fresh life into the game. | © Activision
Recency bias? Perhaps, but I am absolutely convinced that this past Season has shown the devs know what they need to do to win their audience back. We'll never return to the "golden era" of 2020, but Warzone can once again be a popular BR.
For those who haven't been playing, we received a remake of Rebirth (probably the second most popular Warzone map of all time), some great QoL updates, and a number of balancing changes that have given us one of the most varied metas in Warzone history. | © Activision
The train was added and Stadium opened! While these aren't the biggest changes in the world, they were the first major map changes we had, and it felt like a first step for Warzone to begin maturing into a long-term Battle Royale. We also had Mini-Royale, which gave us a taste of the fast-paced action we would later go to Resurgence for. | © Activision
You'll remember this season for the King Kong event, Operation Monarch, which remains one of the best collabs in Warzone history. It was silly and uncompetitive, but who cares? We got to throw boulders like Kong and shoot heat rays like Godzilla! | © Activision
During MW2019 Season 3, Warzone was still very much in it's "golden era" with many players still isolating due to Covid. This was also when Quads was introduced, which has since become the most popular way to play Warzone. | © Activision
With this season we received the updated "Verdansk '84" map, and then later the 80s Action Heroes event, and the addition of Nakatomi Plaza. While most of the changes to Verdansk were underwhelming, this was an incredible event, complete with an amazing soundtrack and the awesome duo of Rambo and John McClane. Also, Nakatomi Plaza is perhaps the best single building we've ever received across any map. | © Activision
A new game, a new map, and the birth of Resurgence. We have to respect this season for that alone, but many forget how terrible the meta was during this season of Warzone. The DMR meta was horrific, and one of the worst we've ever had to endure. | © Activision
The first Halloween event took place during this Season, and it remains legendary. It was scary and fun, and came with some of the best skins in Warzone history, like Jigsaw and Leatherface. All the Halloween events since have paled in comparison to the original. | © Activision
How can we not respect the OG? Looking back, we were missing a lot of QoL features that we now take for granted, but this season landed right at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and everyone was online. With so many casuals and almost no sweats, the game was also at it's most inviting.
I would kill for us to get an OG-style season that let us get a glimpse of the original version of Warzone. We can only dream. | © Activision
We're now in the fifth year of Warzone and have enjoyed over 25 seasons of CoD's BR. After an incredible launch, the game got progressively worse, culminating in MWII and the failed "Warzone 2.0" rebranding effort. But now, finally, the game is starting to recover.
