Professional football player Jason Kelce claims he wants to bring back the classic franchise Backyard Football.
Jason Kelce, starting center for the Philadelphia Eagles, wants to revive Backyard Football, an iconic football series that hasn’t had a new game in the series since 2010. He revealed this on the latest episode of his podcast New Heights, which he hosts with his brother Travis Kelce, who is most-famous as a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jason Kelce Is Looking For The Backyard Football Rights
Backyard Sports was a series of cute arcade sports titles, which let you play several popular genres of sport as children in a backyard. This included Backyard Football and Backyard Baseball, games that Kelce is looking to revive.
On episode 76 of the New Heights podcast, Jason Kelce and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, nerd out about old-school arcade sports games and how much they loved them. While they mostly talk about the excellent NFL Blitz, they briefly mention Backyard Football as well.
And this is where Kelce reveals that he has been “secretly looking into seeing anyone holds the rights”. He apparently “wants to buy it and get the thing going again”, as he is a huge fan of the game.

Interestingly enough, the Twitter clip of the conversation quickly got a response from Ian Cummings, who worked at Electronic Arts for over ten years and directed multiple Madden games. He reveals some info on where the IP could be, before actually advising Kelce against chasing the brand and instead just starting his own IP.
It would be fun to see the Kelces get involved in the sports games market and Backyard Football would be a great fit. Considering that there’s really only Madden, and that arcade sports games are basically gone, a return of the franchise would be very welcome.
